How many clubs should i join at uni

I am doing medicine and i am afriad that I should not join any to focus on the academic sides but i would also like to experience uni life.

All of them. And then, none of them. You need to explore and then exploit. Join all and go to as much as you can to figure out which ones you like most, and then commit to 1 or at most 2. It shouldn't take up all your time but you wanna get in on it at the start when everyone's new so its not awkward. I also found some cool societies on unidingo which are more chilled and host events every so often, might be worth giving it a look

Hello 👋 however many you feel comfortable joining! I would encourage you to go to freshers fair and take a look at all that's on offer, then you can find ones that align to your hobbies or interests, you may find as well there's a lot of academic societies too so they can aid in your academic side of things. I know when I started university I joined a few different clubs to try new things and wanted to have a balance between studying and socialising. Whilst I didn't carry on with the societies as time went on, the people I met there I'd still meet up with for coffee so it was nice from that aspect of things.

Throughout the year too different sports and societies would run give it a go sessions which were great to just go along to, no commitment, so there may be similar opportunities for you too! I'm sure there will also be lots of other things going on throughout the year at the student union outside of clubs and societies so there'll be lots to get stuck into to experience uni life. Take things at your own pace 🙂

I hope you have an amazing time at university! All the best,

Jennie
Joining a club or society doesn't place any obligation on you to participate, although given you usually have to pay to join you are sort of behooved to make the most of your money by doing so. I'd say test out a few and then find a couple that you are happy to build into your routine schedule as activities and focus on those

Taking up a leadership/committee role within the society on the other hand does place obligations on you to participate and so you should be mindful of how much you take on if/when you decide to do that. Some unis/SUs have rules in place to limit the number of committee positions you hold so as to ensure everyone can participate in those if they wish and that those in the roles do in fact undertake their obligated duties!

Hey there, I hope you are well!

I feel like societies are a great way to put yourself out there, meet new people and learn valuable new skills. Maybe it is worth starting by looking for societies of your interest and attending a few events and sessions so you can get a feel of it! Also, sometimes it doesn't hurt to just look at stuff and see if something peaks your interest and then going for it. Maybe it will turn out well!

I hope this helps,
