The Student Room Group

My college have cancelled one of my A-levels 5 days before I start, what now?

The courses I had initially planned to do at A-level were Music (Production), Psychology, and Criminology. During my GCSEs, I received a letter from the college telling me that criminology wouldn't be running (I am aware that many other schools aren't running criminology this year because of budget cuts). I brushed this off because I knew that a lot of students were in the same boat, and changed this option instead to computer science. I felt that this option would fit nicely with my music production so was feeling okay about it being changed.

The next issue I had was that when I went in for my taster day, I was informed (then and there) that music production would not be running this year, and instead, I would have to do music performance. Music is the main subject I am interested in studying so I was initially very upset about this change of plan. After looking at the music performance course in more detail, I decided that I would stick with it. At university, I would like to study music production, but I felt that having both the music performance and computer science a-levels, I would be able to pursue that course in the future.

After results day, I went in to enrol at the college, with my choices of computer science, music performance, and psychology secured. Everything went smoothly on the day and I was made aware of no changes to my subject options. However today, I have received a phone call from the college telling me that they have removed one of the computer science classes, meaning that I now have a clash in my schedule with computer science and music performance. I am devastated about this information as these are obviously the two courses I am most desperate to do. The college have offered me help and no alternative courses and after having looked at the website, there are no similar courses to either my computer science, or my music. I will need to pick a third a-level that is completely random and irrelevant to what I want to do in the future.

I have ruled out every other college in my area as none are offering the specific courses or college atmosphere that I am looking for (and it is likely past the time where I am able to enrol elsewhere). If I really needed to choose, my choice would be music, but to do what I want to do in uni, I would really want to also have computer science. I am unsure whether I would be able to get a tutor, and be able to study for an AS level in computer science (even though my college don't do AS levels). Or, whether I should go ahead with picking a random third a-level and try to do an EPQ, but focus the topic on something to do with computer science.

Any help or advice would be really appreciated
i looked through some uni requirements for music production and none of them mention computer science. A couple required music, and lots mentioned interviewing auditions or a portfolio. I would suggest sticking to music.
Are you certain there are no other schools in your area which can offer the courses you want?
