A-Levels and Highers at the same time????

In my school until this year, you could pick three advanced higher subjects and that's the only subjects you would take, the rest of your periods would be study periods. However my school has stopped this because people weren't using their study periods for actual studying.

So now I have to take 5 subjects even if I'm taking 3 advanced subjects.

At the moment I am thinking of doing 2 AHs (maths and biology) and doing the rest as highers. I also want to take higher drama.

I'm not sure what to do with my other subject slots, should I take some random easy highers? Like cake craft or something??? I might try and take a college course as well???? I'm not really sure what to do it's kind of thrown me off and I feel like the work load would be way too much. I did get all As for nat5s and hoping for all As for higher but still.

If anybody has any advice I would be so grateful because I'm so lost 😭😭 If anybody has advice for easy highers that would be appreciated as well. I don't need to pick subjects for a while yet but I want to figure it out early so I don't panic later.

5 subjects including 3 adv higher is a lot! im surprised they are making you do that. do they do any modules at your school? I took 3 adv higher and 1 higher this year and managed to get all A's however with dissertations involved it was a lot of work. I would definitely do some research into the easiest/A awarding Higher, from friends I know many do well in business/admin highers area. Also looking at what unis you are hoping to apply for, Scottish ones won't look for adv highers whereas most English require 3

Yeah it's really annoying! I'm only interested in scottish unis, I'm hoping for glasgow or strathclyde. I want to take AH biology and maths and higher drama. I might also need to take a humanities higher for the course im interested in (i've sent an inquiry to the uni to ask if psychology counts as a humanities subject).

Can you tell me more about the modules?? i don't really know what they are or if my school has them.
Hi yeah my school does the same thing but even if you take e.g. 2 AH and a crash higher they don’t give you free periods, which is really annoying

My school didn't do until this year, it's really frustrating. What are you going to do/did do?

my school offered a range for s6 students, they aren't an sqa qualification but you usually get some sort of qualification/award at the end. usually they aren't everyday like your core subjects but once a week type thing to fill free period as my school you had to have a certain number of hours and the rest were just free periods. they had things like philosophy, media, volunteering and so on. have you thought about maybe doing a Scottish bachelorette and work out a compromise with the school - really don't think its fair to make you do 5 exams at the end of the year

I don't think my school has anything like that, or at least not what I've heard. My school offers college courses and that's about it 😭😭. Honestly I've not got a clue about a scottish bachelorette it wasn't even on my radar. I'm hoping my school gives me more information soon but i've asked teachers and they've not got a clue either. Thanks for your advice though, it gives me another avenue to look down

tbh i don’t know i really want study periods but don’t want to take 3 AHs… maybe fill my other 2 columns with N5s (my school does some like Cake Craft), maybe some volunteering.. i might ask to sit in on Higher Comp Sci but not do the exam.. i’ll have to see idk yet for sure
