Worried I’m not passionate about alevel choices

Hi, everyone always says you have to like your alevels choices, and like them A LOT, and I’m really worried. I’m not passionate about anything, I honestly don’t care about many things and I’m just neutral about everything. I’m doing maths, which is chose because it’s a good general subject and I got an 8 at GCSE, geography, because I thought I liked it a lot but I think I just really liked my teacher, but it’s not bad, and economics, which I have never done but it seems like a good combo. I don’t mind all these subjects, I wouldn’t change any of them, but I just feel weird about not loving any of them. I just chose them because I want to earn money 💀 some subjects I know I dislike, like sciences and English, but I don’t love any subjects. I'm scared I’ll meet people in my new sixth form who are crazy passionate about their subject, and I’ll just be there with no strong opinions on anything. Am I just like super passive 😭 am I meant to love a subject? When I went to the induction day of my new school there were so many people who were just so happy to be doing geography and I honestly just could not care less. :frown: is this normal? When I picked my options my school went on this whole talk session about how it’s really important to love your subjects to stay motivated, but I don’t love any subject :frown:

No its totally fine. You dont have to love a subject and you dont have to llike it ALOT. You could just be intereated in doing the subject You could just like it becasue of a few units/ topics or cause or You like a specific aspect of it alot like idk money in economics.
Also think about geography like there is other aspects you may like about geography but its just getting overshadowed in your thought process cause u had a nice teacher.
The fact that you dont mind tjese subjects and wouldnt change any of them means that you are somewhat to quite comfortable with your choices so dont stress it.
About the sixth form, no you dont have to its fone if you are not crazy passuonate about the subject like other students and during induction day is mostly cause people are just excited to be starting a new chapter of their life and are excited about their options.
But This is absolutely true that you need motivation to do something so try to find other ways of motivation to help with your chosen subjects or look for specific aspects of the subject you like and use that as motivation.
Sorry for lengthly reply.

Hi there,
Ideally you don't want to hate your subjects, as otherwise you'll dread and probably won't be revising them and so won't do well. It's a common idea now that discipline > motivation - if your motivation is to pursue a well-paid job, that should be enough to keep you disciplined! While it's true that people who succeed tend to be passionate about their subjects, I think as long as you have a reason to do well that is strong enough to keep you going, you'll be fine. Don't lose sight of the end goal!
Good luck!
