Compare MA animation at RCA, AUB and Kingston Uni

Hello,
I am an animation filmmaker and researching for an MA animation course at the Royal College of Art, Arts University Bournemouth and Kingston University London.

I want to learn more about the animation documentary path, so I am wondering if this course could particularly accommodate the terms of film and art. As my current research, I felt like AUB is more clear on specializing in both art and film. Myself is really inspired by students' works from RCA - but I can not find any evidence related to film rather than their most reputation on arts.

It'd also be great if you have any good suggestions for studying MA animation in the UK.

Thank you so much!
Hi @Charlie.mt

It’s nice to hear your thinking about doing a Masters.
I’m Q a Media Production student at Bournemouth University.

At Bournemouth University (BU), we also have a few Animation Masters. BU is also home to the National Centre for Computer Animation (NCCA), which has top rankings in UK, Europe and globally for our animation courses. Poole Gateway Building (PGB) is our new state-of-the-art facilities including screening rooms, a green screen studio, motion capture facilities, and collaborative working spaces, which is designed to be the kind of environment you'll find in the industry.

In addition, we have an annual BFX Festival in November, where you can attend talks and masterclasses from industry professionals, and find out more about the industry.

We have a few different courses - you can find them linked here: Postgraduate - Computer Animation, Games & Visual Effects courses

I hope this helps - let me know if you have any questions.

Hi @Charlie.mt,

At AUB we offer a fairly bespoke pathway that's determined by project focused, student interests. The course triangulates theory, practice and professionalism, and is driven by the research agenda of individual students. The course tutors are particularly interested in the subjective and design-fictional aspects of animated documentary, and we are increasingly encouraging a ‘documentary’ option for the written components of the course. This approach enables students to contextualise and theorise their practical work by making use of the (animated) documentary form.

Paul Ward, the course leader of our MA Animation Production has written extensively on the subject of animated documentary, and our senior lecturer (Spencer Roberts) has a focused interest in practice-oriented modes of research, which blur the lines between aesthetic and propositional modes of communication.

If you're interested in knowing more about the course, please contact [email protected] and [email protected].

We've also got some online Open Day sessions coming up in October booking opens soon.

Best wishes,
Charlotte, AUB
