PLEASE!!! A levels Bio and Chem AND Level 2 applied sceince.

Hello, I moved to the uk 1 year and a half ago, and when I was at the start of my school year in my country I was suppose to do my gcse but I couldn't since I had to move here. When I did they said they could not let me do the normal gcse subjects because of my age (I was 16 back then about to turn 17) so they made me do level 2 applied science with English and Maths gcse.

I got really good grades for Maths and English and got Distinction* for my applied science course. Whilst doing my course some friends and I were looking forward to do a level chem and bio. We asked our teacher if with level 2 applied science it's possible to do these and they said YES multiples times if we get Distinction.

But I recently find out while enrolling back to the college that I couldn't do these A levels and that I should do Level 3 applied science. I'm really dissapointed because I worked so hard in these subjects especially Maths to be able to do chem as it require a grade above 5.

Will I be restricted concerning unis since I'll basically not do an actual "A level". Will most unis accept it? What kind of actual good jobs I could get with it? I am planning on studying either biomedical or forensic.

Again I'm so sorry if what I wrote is too long. I'm just really worried and don't know what to do at uni anymore since the sudden change of subjects literally made me lose hope, after they encouraged me into thinking I was secured to do these subjects.

Hi! I can totally relate to moving I had to do the same, for the uni side tho i would definitely speak to the unis ur thinking of applying to as they will be able to guide u in the right direction. Also, some unis do say maths is a science subject so i think u will be ok, but like i said, speak to unis because they will be able to help u a lot more than i can do. However that’s strange for ur GCSEs bc i was 17 when i sat them and i had to do 9 subjects? I hope this helps and good luck 🙂

I find it strange too but I was thinking maybe it's because I came around February so it was already too late to get into highschool. And also thank you! I will definitely get in contact with the unis.☺️
