Feeling behind because of a gap year?

i'm 19, just finished my a levels after having to do an extra year and already feel behind but i'm gonna stick a gap year through. however i think i really want to apply to continue studying crim next year, its just the anxiety of starting over without no like real connections to the uni. i just wanted to know if there's literally anyone in a similar boat

Hi @achire

There will likely be lots of students who are in a similar situation who have taken 1+ gap years.

I did a gap year after finishing my A Levels and it made me feel a lot more prepared to study at university. I also enjoyed having a break from studying.

During welcome week (and the rest of the course) there are lots of opportunities to make friends with like-minded students, for example the student union hosts lots of events to help you to meet people.

I hope that helps!

Hello there,

Age genuinely doesn't matter at uni, as well as connections. Everybody arrives at uni and they're new to it, nobody will have a single clue what they're doing on those first days and so everyone will be literally in the same boat together

Loads of people take gap years, a gap year doesn’t mean just one it can be however long you want it to be until you return to education. University is a new thing for everyone starting so everyone’s in the same boat
