The Student Room Group

Options at sixth form

1) Film studies, History and English | Language.
2) Film Studies, History and IT.
3) Computer science, History and Maths.
I enjoyed Computer science while in GCSEs and I originally wanted to do in university, but when now I want to do film studies. I know Computer science is probably the better option but I don't know what to pick.

Just to throw a few spanners in the works:
The key A Level would be Maths as opposed to Computer Science for Computer Science degrees.
You don't need specific A Level subjects for degrees in film studies.
You don't need a degree to go into tech or film for work (unless you intend to become a teacher or go into academia in the respective subjects).

How does the above affect your choices?

So your saying it would be best to not do computer science or Film studies?

I'm not saying that; I'm saying you won't need them should you need to compromise.

If you can get high grades and have strong interest in computer science and film, you can easily do: Maths, Computer Science, and Film Studies and be eligible for both Computer Science and Film Studies degrees.

Oh yeah the problem with that is that computer science and Film is in the same block. Meaning I can’t take both a levels as they overlap

It's up to you then.
If you want to remain open to both types of degrees, I would make sure you have A Level Maths (or at least Physics, but Maths is the stronger preference) as one of the options.

Ok thank you for replying and answering my question. I’m still on the edge but maths and history are probably definite now

Maybe look at the content/specification. Take the one that you enjoy

Forgot to throw another spanner in the works:

Should you ever for any random reason beyond comprehension decided to do degrees in both subjects, you can often do a postgrad computer science conversion course with an undergrad in any subject or sometimes a film master's degree with an undergrad in any subject

Having said the above, there are some master's in computer science and film that would require a relevant undergrad, because they would go into more depth in the specific subject.

Go with what you want to do, but also think of your future, your computer science A-Level (if you also do it at UNI) will help you to get high-demand, high-paying jobs.
