Seeking Advice on Learning Arabic for Gulf Work

Hello freinds,

I'm new to leaning Classical Arabic and have enrolled on a course and have two main goals: 1) learn the language of the Quran, and 2) fluent in speaking Arabic, as I plan to work in the Gulf in the future. I’m having a dilemma, should I start learning Gulf (Khaleeji) vocabulary now, or focus on that after spending some time on the Classical Arabic course?

I live in the UK, and many of my close brothers are starting to learn Egyptian Arabic since it’s said to be the most widely understood dialect and resources available. Given that I intend to work in the Gulf, I’m unsure whether to focus on Egyptian or Gulf dialect vocabulary. Considering the limited resources available for Gulf dialects, which path would be best for me? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Egyptian arabic is widely understood, even to iraqis and moroccans. i recommend doing egyptian arabic, and learning Qur'anic arabic separately as if they were different languages. that is what i am doing. (just darija instead of msri arabic)

You need to learn standard Arabic to have access to written media and of course to read and understand Quran. Dialects, whether Egyptian or Gulf, won't help you there. If you're going to the Gulf, I don't recommend you focus on Egyptian dialect. Yes, people will understand you, but if you focus on Egyptian dialect you're likely not going to understand them. It is like you speak to them in Spanish and they respond in Portuguese, sure there is some intelligibility there, but there will be a significant gap. I recommend you learn standard Arabic and focus on Gulf dialect.
