Where could I strategically apply for medicine

Hi I just wanted to have an idea of where I can apply to medicine as my GCSEs are kind of low and my UCAT is also low.
My GCSEs are: 988877665 (6 in English lang and 7 in Maths)
My UCAT score is 2540
and my predicted Grades are A*(chemistry) AA (biology and maths)

Advice would be much appreciated,
Thanks.

Hi, I checked cardiff and it says I need 27 points to apply there and I think mostly because my GCSEs are lower I get only 25 points so would there be any point in applying?

Also what is the EMDP course if you could expand on that?

Thanks very much for your help.

Usually I would say to go for it as you are only 2 marks away, but from what I’ve researched Cardiff doesn’t look at predicted grades so there is no way your alevel predicted grades can outshine your GCSEs. Have a look at the 2024 entry to Medicine for Cardiff thread, and see if you see anyone’s stats.

As for the EMDP (Extended Medical Degree Programme) course at KCL: the ‘standard course’ at KCL is 5 years, whereas the Emdp is 6 years, where the first year of med school is split into two academic years ( years 1A and 1B)
The Emdp focuses on students with widening participation and people with lower stats in things such as GCSEs, alevels, UCAT, exact same medicine course and degree, just a slower start and more academic help, to help students ease into medical school.
For more info check out the EMDP course page on the KCL website.

Hiya, just checked and I'm eligible since my school is non-selective and ive been going there ever since year 11, the only thing concerning me is that almost 800 people apply for the course and only 80 get selected. would you say that is too risky?

As for the advice regarding Cardiff thank you very much and I'll look into it.
You've been a great help !😀

I thought the same too but I fortunately got a place! So I think you should defo give it a go.
tbh every medical school has a high applicants to places ratio, to get into any medical school is competitive, so just try your best and see where that gets you, just be open to the fact that you may not get in on your first try and that is absolutely fine.
I'm glad I could help, good luck with your application!
Let me know if you need anymore help

I am really embarrassed to say it but it was 2260 Band 2, I easily did 40-50 hrs prep on it but it just was a rubbish exam and a rubbish day for me unfortunately. I did the exam last year and didn’t score well. I have lots of volunteer work so I’m also looking at Sunderland and UCLan (I am NW student). Thank you for replying to me

Hi i'm considering this course, however I am not a WP candidate but I do attend a non-selective state school. My ucat is 2540 B1 and my gcse's are 99988888887. Do you think I have a chance?

Did you try St George’s and Nottingham?

Please don't be embarrassed, I understand how frustrating it can be, but sometimes no matter how much hard work and effort you put into the UCAT, the test in front of you that day may be the worst thing ever. Don't let that get to you.

That's good that you have volunteer experience, use that for your personal statement and at interviews.
Good luck with your application! and also give it a go with the EMDP course!

Exeter is not advisable as you will be wasting one of your 4 choices. Check your score using their admission policy 2025 below. You will be needing 3A* + higher UCAT score to stand any chance for interview shortlising, basing on past years shortlisted interviews.

Yes it was the most awful exam! thank you so much for your lovely message. I’ll look into the EMDP further, that’s really helpful.
Thank you again

Hey @dotty347 !

I'm one of the current UCLan students so I wanted to try and help you!

Since you've already sat the UCAT (and it wasn't a bad score at all!), I would focus on what will make you stand out in your personal statement and at interview such as work experience and volunteering!

I hope this helps,

Rebecca, UCLan

Hi Rebecca,
Thank you very much for your words of encouragement, it is very nice of you. I am currently focusing on my personal statement and I will try to make it the best it can be.

Please could I ask, I am a WP student, is this taken into account during the selection for interview?
Thank you

Hi I'm in a similar boat to everyone else these are my stats and I wanted to know if I have a chance at any med unis?
GCSE's: 999888888
Predicted: A*A*A* + A* in EPQ
UCAT: 2330 B4
personal statement: GP work experience, hospital work experience, care home work experience + volunteering, wider reading of autobiographies of healthcare professionals, also a maths and English tutor for ages 5-16
WP: I'm eligible for 16-19 bursary + first person to go to uni in my family
I would love to go to Leeds and I emailed their admissions tutor's with my stats and they told me to have a look at contextual offers but I'm still hesitant on applying
I completely understand that my UCAT is not the best especially with my sjt but I am really interested in med and where possible I wouldn't want to take a gap year as I'd prefer to go on and study after A levels, any advice would be greatly appreciated and good luck to everyone else!!
