does UoE do free electronic access to textbooks?

hi!

i've noticed on course content pages, the reading list links to UoE library (?) referencing access to electronic copies. does this mean you can read textbooks for free with an account? i can't see the actual site because i don't have access yet so i can't really tell. that would really save a lot of money if so, even if it's renting an ebook or whatever, but it feels almost too good to be true 😭 i've always been warned to save up for hundreds pounds worth of textbooks lol

First thing I would say is that it is worth waiting to buy anything text book wise until you get here. Module leaders will highlight what they think you need to purchase but my main tips would be:

Our library will have multiple versions of core text books so there are copies to go around (admittedly can still be tight). There will be opportunities to feedback if more copies of certain textbooks are required through Library Reps when you are here.

We do have electronic versions of journals and text books so these can be accessed for free as a student. This is something that you can go along to our Library induction to be shown how to access.

You don't need to buy them brand new. Most departments will have sales or opportunities to buy text books second hand from students the year above you. You can then sell them on the following year. It is also worth trying to befriend some friendly students in the year above who can reassure you on what was actually worth purchasing because you will keep using it.

You do not need to spend a fortune on textbooks - there are other ways around it. Hopefully this reassures you a little bit that you won't be spending all of your savings on them!
