Water based lube burns me

Hoping for a bit of help here

I find sex incredibly painful. I have reason to suspect that I have vaginismus. Currently waiting to see a gynaecologist. The only thing that improves it is lube although it’s still painful even then. It’s like a dull achey pain, and sometimes a sharp sting.

Tonight, my boyfriend and I ran out of our usual silicone lube. We had a big bottle of water based lube and so decided to use that instead.

Putting it in/on was fine and there was no issue, things seemed fine.

But the minute he went to enter, it felt like I had literally been set ablaze. It started burning like crazy, to the point I was crying, fanning my vagina with my hand, and we had to run to the bathroom to wash it all out in the shower. Even once it was all out, the pain continued, though it did ease up.

We checked periodically throughout the night after this and there was no redness or swelling or anything, with the pain completely subsiding in about an hour or so.

What on earth could cause this? We assumed allergic to something at first; but why would it only start burning and hurting after he attempted to enter? Surely it would burn while applying? And the pain is so different to the pain I have when using silicone based (which is normally an uncomfortable but relatively bearable pain). This was so incredibly painful.

I’m moving for university in two weeks and have already swapped GPs, so will have to get a GP appointment when I arrive, which will be one of the first things i do. But any ideas what it could be until then?

if you dont like the pain then stop doing it its really simple. Control your desires and grow up. Just enjoy your time with your boyfriend normally then when your ready to have a child do the act.

You’re sitting on here crying about an adult woman in her 20’s having sex with her boyfriend.

Perhaps if you went outside and did something with your life, you wouldn’t be so pathetically sad. Who knows, maybe you’ll find somebody who WANTS to have sex with you one day! Good luck bozo x

Christ you are a pathetic individual. Go be a bible thumper somewhere else. It is 1 in the morning. Do you have nothing better to do that to preach your weird personal beliefs on strangers online? Go to bed! Go do a hobby!

Anyway, OP, ignoring that absolutely strange individual, it does sound kind of like an allergy. Have you checked the ingredients? Pretty common allergy is glycerin / other gly-named products inside lubricant. There’s some other bits that are common allergic-adjacent bits found inside! I’m also not 100%, but I think there’s something regarding PH balances and types of lubes?

Either way, a GP / gyne visit would probably be your best route like you said. Both for the lube related issue and for pain during sex in general. Best of luck!

i know its going to sound a little strange but, me and my gf use virgin coconut oil, it works just like normal lube and if not better

Be careful with this oils can upset a woman’s PH balance it also does not leave the vagina until her period same with silicones.

So it’s probably an adverse reaction to either aloe or glycerin (sugar by-product) so it’s possible your PH balance doesn’t mix well with these ingredients causing you to dry out and there for the pain. OR because the skin inside the vagina is very different then the outer skin you could just be slightly allergic but then once it comes in contact with inside the vagina which is highly absorbent it could cause more of an allergic reaction.
I suggest trying a all natural lubricant hybrid like Sliquid Silk it’s a mix of silicone and water, be careful with silicone lubes though as they do no leave the female body right away due to the fact it is not absorbable so it slowly comes out with your natural discharge over time or when you have your period.
