Imperial Medical Biosciences

I’m thinking about applying for the imperial medical biosciences programme, but I’m not sure if my background is competitive enough as I’ve never won the international biology Olympiads.
What are the backgrounds for those who were accepted by imperial med biosciences?

Hey there, medical biosciences student here!

In my opinion, the priority should be to ensure that your exam results meet the entry requirements for the medical biosciences course - you can check the course page on the imperial website for the entry requirements for your exams (you can also contact admissions team).

If you have to write a personal statement as well, then it should ideally focus on:
-your passion for studying biology in school
-your ability to work in a team

The reason being this course is taught via team-based learning so they would ideally like to see how effectively you work in a team.

Don't worry about the international biology olympiad - it's not a strict requirement at most it's just a bonus thing for you to mention. As long as you can list examples and can showcase your passion for biology and your ability to work well in a team, and also anything else you've done in school.

Hi! I came across the medical biosciences course quite late, and I like the modules offered and the unique approach to learning, however I am applying to pharmacology in all other choices, so my personal statement is completely about pharmacology. I do include my ability to work as a team in my ps, and due the pharmacology and biomed having overlap there are similarities, but due to pharmacology being much more specific I talked about our body’s systems and disease in terms of how they can be treated with drugs and therapies. I do love enzyme action so maybe I can tweak it to talk more about enzymes which would be more holistic but other than that idrk. Would a personal statement geared towards pharmacology affect my chances? I meet the entry requirements so grades are fine! I am also eligible for contextual off if that means anything too

Hey there!

Ah it differs for everyone, and it was two years ago for me now but I think if I remember correctly, I sent off my application in mid January and got my offer around mid or late February. But it also depends on when you sent off an application, for example if you sent applications earlier then probably expect to hear a reply earlier than everyone. Don't worry too much though it differs from everyone tbh
