What are my chances for these med schools based on my UCAT?

Where I want to apply - Cardiff University, University of Plymouth, University of Bristol and either KCL or Southampton

Here are my grades so far
GCSE
Maths A*
English A*
Welsh A*
Chemistry A*
Biology A*
Physics A*
Music A*
French A*
Spanish A*

AS Level
Biology A
Chemistry A
Maths A

A2 Prediction
Biology A*
Chemistry A*
Maths A*

UCAT
2650 + Band 4 (never got below band 2 in any of my practise UCATs)

A little about me:
I play 3 instruments, one of which I hope to achieve grade 7 in before I leave college, I am an army cadet of rank Corporal, I have taken part in 2 martial arts.

I have adjusted my application choices based on my UCAT result but I am still concerned about my chances and was hoping that someone could give me some insight? Sorry if this is too brief. Thanks.

Amazing GCSE’s and predictions.
I have supported a number of students in your position over the years.
Many many medical students will have spent two years applying. If you can try and Look at the application as a two year process it can help.
Learn everything you can about the process this year and get as far as you can by applying tactically.
If you apply tactically you may have the opportunity to gain an interview and hopefully you will smash an interview. Go carefully through every uni and check what they say regarding r/o band 4 or if the situational judgement gets points or score in interview (this will be quite a lot).
Work on getting the best a-levels you can and then if you haven’t got in somewhere reapply for next years ucat. Read gmc dutys of a doctor very carefully, try and get a job either in hospital or general practice go through ucat again, hopefully interviews then by Jan next year you can go off and have a six month adventure before starting uni.

Good luck

hi can i have some advice as well
I got 2910 B2 in the ucat, is this enough for london unis like imperial/ucl/kings?
any help much appreicated
Well done
Good score
Ucl and imperial are an unknown this year - as first year for ucat.
The key is to use stats from previous years to apply tactically - often one aspirational you’re just on border of two you should be able to get based on prev years stats and one safe.
The stats are out available on the student room or the medic portal.
Kings mean score interviewed was 2930 for 23 entry (24 should be out before applications). Unclear how they use SJ.

Make a table and review how you score - very best of luck

One aspirational
two where you feel you should be ok
One safe where you should definitely get interviewed

dw abt the mean score interviewed as there is no actual cut off and the lowest score invited to an interview at king's was 2520. If ur GCSEs are strong then its calm and ur also pretty close to that year's mean anyways.
thanks a lot mate, much appreicated
I was also wondering once you get to the interview stage do they proceed with only the interview performance or do they look at ur ucat after that still?

ohh right yhh, thanks mate
my gcse's are 8 9's 3 8's 1 6, the 6 being in eng lang, would this be ok for them unis?
Great GCSE’s - 6 for English is ok as long as all in one sitting.
As above we only have data from previous years so it depends on this years cohort - but as you are near the mean and ucat far above prev threshold
kings looks a safe bet for an interview. But they do use SJ but unclear how. Check the individual uni website.
Ucl and imperial are unknown so would be risky to use 50% of your places IMHo but you have to decide how much the not knowing will
Affect you.

We always say apply tactically and don’t get too attached to any uni until you have your ucat score. Make a table and work out your chances

Very best of luck

Dude thats really good since grade 8s and 9s are counted as A* you got 11 and 1 B. I would not worry about your GCSEs. Here, use this websites to get a clearer idea. https://www.theukcatpeople.co.uk/medical-schools/ucat/how-universities-use-the-ucat?srsltid=AfmBOooeUYifE3u1JXzfUM24pbvPwcJdw6nwY2p9yF-7CBUCIPHIjBnQ

As far I know they will not consider your UCAT score on deciding which of the interview candidates gets an offer. Its based on performance alone.

A few unis use SJ score as an ‘interview station’ score
Use website linked above
Kings think interview alone - unclear how SJ used but they say it is - ? I. Tie break situations?

just out of curiosity what do you think the cutoff will be for imperial/ucl this year coz this is kind of a tough decision for me to make. Some people are saying 2900 as a minimum whereas others are saying 3000 so at this point im kind of in two minds.

i was also wondering how much importance them unis give to personal statement coz i feel thats sort of my strong point. Ive done loadss of volutnerring and work experiecne and many extra-curriculars in the past year or two so should i aim to maximise my ps as much as possible
Everyone is just guessing
You could look at how both used bmat previously to give you ideas

https://www.medicmind.co.uk/medicine-ucas-guide/bmat-universities/

With bmat Imperial was scores alone and score for each section , ucl was more holistic.

That’s why I would only personally risk one or the other as complete unknown this year.
Ps the other key for all applicants this year will be reviewing the ucat deciles which come out before ucas in.
End of the day a medicine degree is a medicine degree - you only need one offer and it really doesn’t matter where from.

As you know they are scrapping it next year. As far as ik only a few unis use the PS to shortlist you for an interview. But once you secure your interview thats when it becomes important as unis use it as a springboard to ask you questions in an interview

UCL said this '2024 will be the first year that UCL uses UCAT to select candidates for interview. We therefore do not have any historical data that we can share with applicants, and will not be providing a “cut off” score for selection to interview.'
