Mould at university of reading

I was wondering what the mould situation was like at the university of reading? Is it worth getting mould spray.

If you're moving into uni halls on campus, all the accommodation is new enough that you shouldn't need to worry about mould, and UPP, who look after any issues you have in halls, can clean any mould up for you if you report it on the Home At Halls app, as well as fixing any broken appliances etc.

If you're renting privately, in an older house from a landlord, it's a different story. While your landlord should be responsible for treating any mould or infestations, it's often the case that they're not the most helpful and you may end up doing a lot of maintenance yourself. (This isn't specific to Reading, you'll find this with landlords wherever you end up.)

If it's really worrying you, then get the mould spray, but I wouldn't bother until you've moved in and assessed the situation yourself. On campus, unless you're in an en suite, the contracted cleaners will clean your bathroom (where mould is most likely to be) and any shared spaces. For a rented house or flat, your landlord may provide a few cleaning supplies, so check out the situation before making any big purchases.

Hope this helps!

Hi there,

I understand your concern regarding mould in student accommodation however the University of Reading takes maintenance very seriously to ensure a healthy and safe living environment!

If you notice any mould in your accommodation, the first step is to report it to the maintenance team via the university's online portal or by contacting them directly. They are very quick to respond and will deal with your concern for you 🙂 It isn't 100% necessary to bring mould spray unless you want to.

I hope this helps! I was in halls last year and never had any issues with mould. If you do have any other questions, feel free to ask!

All the best,
Millie 🙂
