Pharmacy or Biochemistry degree?

Hey, I'm thorn between going into Pharmacy or Biochemistry. Would be very useful if someone could tell me:

•Which has a better employability chances after a Master's Degree

•Which pays better (experienced)

•Which is more prosperous

Thanks for your help in advance and I gotta mention again that it's for working in the UK.

Hi @Axel-Genesis!

I’m a current pharmacy student at the university of Nottingham, and here is my experience of the questions mentioned above for pharmacy!

Employability: very high for pharmacy, it’s what is known as a vocational degree (basically meaning you train for a very specific job role) after finish your masters at university, if you wish to become a pharmacist you must do a training year. Depending where you decide to train you would experience hospital, General practice or community (or all three if you train in wales)

From here many employers tend to hire those that they trained.

Pay: for your training year you will be payed minimum wage, more in London due to the high cost of living, after this training year all pharmacists start on a band 6 which range from £35,000-£42,000, within 2 years pharmacists tend to be promoted to band 7 which ranges from £43,000-£52,000

Prosperity: depending on what avenue of pharmacy you could down there’s chances for more development and training in hospitals than there are for community and general practice pharmacists.

Hope this helps!
