I want to do animation

I want to do animations but I dont have the best GCSEs, I have been given photography and business as 2 of my 3 a levels. I have been given textiles but I can switch that for art and design. Would me doing business, photography and then Art & Design help me do Animation in the future. And what else other than Animation would I be able to do
Look into how to become an animator and see what you’ll need to do to become one once you finish year 11. Then see if you can do that with those GCSEs

Hi @KANE_KASHI

I think art & design would definitely be a better fit as there is lots of drawing in animation and that course would allow you to develop that. They sound like great A-Levels Photography and Business will definitely be useful to your future ambitions.

After A-levels you could always do a art & design foundation course where you could specialise in animation to help build your portfolio before applying to university.

I hope this helps

I would definitely agree with Grace that Art and Design would be a better A level than textiles... but if you are driven enough and don't mind working furiously you could develop the artwork for application to a course alongside your A level studies, but it would be very difficult. How many animations have you made so far? I meet a lot of potential applicants that all say they want to be animators but have never done any animation... that's the big difference! Hopefully you're in that department, in which case the next question to ask your self is do you want to be a 2D animator or a 3D animator? (in case you don't know).

If you haven't done much animation I would recommend getting a copy of Richard Williams' book The Animators Survival Kit and then working on some of the exercises in that in whatever software you can. This will also help you decide if you really enjoy animation or not.
