How to choose the right university for you!

Hi all,

Happy September!

Now that everyone is heading back to school or college, a lot of you will be thinking about your UCAS applications and getting them submitted over the next few months.

The first hurdle is choosing what subject you want to study but you may be thinking, what university do I go to?

Here are a few tips to help you get thinking:

Course and module content: What topics will your course be covering over the three to four years? Does it suit your area of interest? Different subjects may look slightly different at different universities. For example, studying English at University A may look different to studying English at University B!

Location: Do you want to be in the city or in a town? Do you want to be at a campus-based uni or a city-based uni?

Opportunities: Does your course allow for things such as placement years or study abroad

Rankings and league tables: How is a university doing in certain tables? You can find all this information on websites such as Times Higher Education. Although, these are not the be all and end all

Attend Open Days or HE Fairs: It is really important to attend the university you are considering, in person. It is a great way to get a feel of the campus, speak to staff and students, and get a real feel for the uni and the area. Additioanlly, you can attend HE Fairs such as UCAS Discovery, UK Uni Search and What?Uni. Here, you can speak to staff and students of the uni and ask all course-related questions and anything else in beween!

These are just a few tips to help get you thinking about how to choose the right uni for you. If anyone has any other suggestions, please comment below!
