Hey everyone! I successfully got into Newcastle University for Architecture with Sociology, Geography and 3-D Design and loved this forum last year. I also had offers from Edinburgh and Northumbria, so if anyone wants any advice, or questions I’d be glad to help.

Good luck for this year everyone.

I also did an EPQ subject on Architecture. So again, any questions you can DM or reply. 😋

Hi everyone. Does anyone know how and when to submit the portfolio for Cambridge? Is this submitted with the UCAS form to the University or is it submitted to your first choice of College? I am struggling to find the answer on the Cambridge University website.

You submit your UCAS application as normal and then unis will contact you to request a portfolio if they wish to take your application further.

Hi guys,

I’m applying to the following universities: UCL, Edinburgh, UAL, Oxford Brookes, AA, and either Nottingham or Liverpool.

My A-Level subjects and grades are:

Art (A*)Japanese (A*)Chemistry (A)Math (B)

Outside of school, I’ve been involved in a few activities: summer school, work experience at an award-winning architecture firm, MOOCs, personal readings, volunteering at a care home, curating an art auction at my school, DofE, cross country championships, and playing in an orchestra.

I’m concerned about my Math grade (B) when applying to competitive schools like Edinburgh and UCL. Do you think I should reconsider my university choices or aim lower?

You have five UCAS choices and your predicted grades exceed the requirements for all of your choices, so you should be fine. The usual advice is to have one aspirational choice, three around your predicted grades and an insurance choice a grade or two below your predicted. UAL, UCL and Edi are all competitive. Oxford Brookes is a safer option. Unis only require three A levels so they will only look at your top three, and maths isn't a required subject for any of your choices.

Hi, I'm considering applying to competitive unis for Architecture, including UCL, Nottingham, Cardiff, and Manchester with the grades AAAC, with the C being in Maths and AAA being in Spanish, Geography and 3D Design. Would the C hinder my application overall? (Despite the fact my AAA would meet the entry requirements)

No the C won't hinder your application. Maths isn't a required subject for any of your choices and unis will only look at your best three A levels.
There is a new thread showing the 2025 entry requirements for all RIBA-approved architecture courses:

Hi there,

Glad to hear you are considering Cardiff uni for architecture. Its a great course!
Unfortunately as I am not part of the admissions team I cannot say for sure, however I would definitely recommend still applying, as your portfolio also gets taken into account, as well as grades.
Drop the admissions team a message if you are unsure and want to know more, here's the link to their page.

Hope this helps,

Has anyone heard back from Cambridge asking for a portfolio yet?

I got an email from the college I applied to with a link for it, this is before the My Cambridge Application and after I submitted UCAS. I think it is different for every college. Which college are you applying to?

Reply 16

I applied for Jesus. I've had a confirmation for receiving My Cambridge Application, but no information on the portfolio yet...

The uni have defo tried to ease you into the first few weeks which is nice. The course itself is pretty good with one group design project and other modules teaching history and theory while the other structural/ environmental engineering. Met some lovely people on the course so it’s been pretty good so far!
