Getting a job

Hello, I’m gonna be starting uni this year. I wanna get a job, but I have quite bad social anxiety so was wondering what jobs would be a good starting point to help me overcome it. Also how do I actually apply, can I just visit where I wanna apply and bring a cv? Sorry if that’s a silly question. Thank youuu

Hi I hope you are doing well,

That's not a silly question at all! The best way to apply for a job normally is online so looking for vacancies online and there are websites like "Indeed" which are great for alerting you about job vacancies in your area. Also if you look online and see what businesses, shops, cafes etc. are near where you will be living, then you can search their individual websites for vacancies. A lot of places don't really like being handed a CV nowadays and prefer you going through the channels they have set up. I think the exception to this is a local business that might not have online services or has a lot smaller pool of candidates.

In terms of specific jobs, work like data entry jobs or working at a supermarket stacking shelves are quite good jobs for low social contact but if you are looking for something with more facing customer experience, then working in a shop is also good for that on tills or working in hospitality like a pub or a café although that could be quite an extreme amount of contact so whatever you are comfortable with. You can also apply for jobs with your university such as working as an ambassador where you will speak to visitors and prospective students and actively promote the university.

There are lots of options no matter where you go so I'm sure you'll find a job that suits you and make sure to find something you are comfortable with!

All the best,
