Just starting an undergrad in accounting and finance here and for my personal statement, I basically outlined what I wanted to do with the degree and how I expected it to help me achieve my goals in a career. I showed that I understood what the subject matter would be and how it can be applied practically. I gave a quick overview of my career to date (as a mature student so admittedly this may not be as applicable if you're coming straight out of school) and looked to identify skills from my employment history that would be transferrable to the course matter. I shared positions of responsibility I have undertaken voluntarily to show I can keep to commitments and also prioritise workloads, making sure I still performed as expected. Finally, I gave a little bit of explanation of who I am as a person, how I work amongst groups and what motivates me personally. I have however seen people also include that they've read up on the subject matter, showing a willingness to research on their own to further understanding (I was at college studying towards an HND to gain my understanding). There is still just under 5 months until the application deadline as well, I must've e-mailled every accountant in my city enquiring for some work experience or placement (a part time lecturer who taught a module for using Sage actually reached out and offered me a position working with him which I'm now doing alongside my studies- the importance of networking and building connections at every opportunity!). I also actively use LinkedIn which is good for following companies offering internships/apprenticeships/grad schemes as well as keeping an eye on their activity and vacancies arising for future opportunities. Any time anyone replied to my emails, I made sure to connect with them on LinkedIn. Check out a company called AmplifyMe. They run a free workshop event that will give you some cracking insight into asset management and investment banking for the finance side of things with no experience required (which could be highlighted in a personal statement too!)

Thank you very much for the advice, I will definitely take on what you've suggested.
