Bath University Integrated Design Engineering

Hello, I will be applying to uni this October and I am applying for design engineering.
I visited bath uni and really liked it, it’s also a great university. Especially because design engineering isn’t offered at loads of unis, bath has been a strong contender for me and somewhere I consider applying to. However I see on their website that they say they have preference for those who do further maths. I find this annoying especially because this is literally the only des eng course which has this preference for further maths, not even imperial does! I was wondering if they still take those who do further maths? I tried to phone the admissions department and their phone lines are always busy! For reference, my school does offer further maths but I don’t take it (I also don’t regret this, i wouldn’t take a whole extra and especially hard subject for one uni!) but I am still predicted (realistically aswell) 3A*s in maths, physics and Dt.
If anyone has any information please let me know! Thank you!

Hi @sophiejones16

It’s understandable to be concerned about admission requirements, especially when a university like Bath has specific preferences. While it’s true that Bath University’s Design Engineering course has a preference for Further Maths, this doesn't necessarily mean that students without Further Maths are automatically excluded from consideration. Admissions teams often review applications holistically, taking into account your overall academic performance, personal statement, and relevant skills.
Since you have strong predicted grades in Maths, Physics, and Design Technology, which are all highly relevant to the course, you should still present a strong application. Your excellent predicted grades and performance in subjects closely related to design engineering will likely be viewed positively. Additionally, a compelling personal statement demonstrating your passion for design engineering, relevant experiences, and how you've engaged with the subject outside of school can further strengthen your application.
Given that you’ve had difficulty reaching the admissions department by phone, consider reaching out via email. Sometimes written communication allows for a more detailed explanation of your situation, and you might receive a more thorough response.
