School starts later this week, here’s how you are going to get ahead of everyone during this time
The best students use this time to get prepared for the year to come,
so that they can have some experience and come to the first day with some knowledge
1. Don’t LEARN Any New Material Before Class
This probably isn’t something you’ve heard before, but here’s why not learning the material before class is so important for two reasons:
You Might Forget It: You could spend hours studying, only to forget most of it by the time the class actually covers the material
You Might Learn It Wrong: Worse, you could teach yourself the wrong information, which is harder to unlearn and correct once classes start.
I made this mistake going into grade 11 😭
I tried to get ahead by self-studying.
But when I got to class, I misunderstood key concepts, and had to relearn everything.
Trust me, you don’t want to be in that situation.
Instead what you SHOULD do is review previous/prerequisite class material’s instead
For example: Your going to take grade 12 physics, reviewing grade 11 units/concepts
2. Make Studying a GAME
The only way to actually get good grades is through studying.
There’s no bypassing that.
But what you should do is make it very FRICTIONLESS when you study.
AKA. Making it as easy as possible to get started.
This could mean having a clean/tidy room. And having all the proper materials (notebooks, pencils, calc, etc.) by your side, so that all you have to do is start studying.
I’d also say that making sure you have all the right tools ready, for when you need help on problems.
Things like Lazersolver, gpt, photomath, will literally do it in seconds and show you HOW.
This is one of the most effective ways to learn, since a lot of the times these apps/websites actually give breakdowns of the answer and you can even go ask it questions if you’re still unsure.
The only thing about this is that a lot of the time, extra steps are put behind a pay-wall. Or in chatGPT’s case, it really just isn’t that good at math (in terms of calculating/accurate numbers).
I mostly just use either lazersolver’s ai tool whenever I don’t get a question or if it’s a textbook related homework problem something like coursehero or chegg. Although the site is still in beta (beta version: https://forms.gle/xqnwk1s2VrkTb4x6A )
Another major thing in this part, would be removing distractions like your phone.
I personally don’t even keep my phone in the same room as me
For those who start there last year of highschool (me included) good to you all!
