Second year on-campus accommodation - Accessibility at Royal Holloway

Hi,I was wondering if second-years with accessibility needs are allowed to live on campus for their second year as well as their first. I know that generally, students don’t get on-campus housing places for their second or third years but that some students can like choral students etc. I was wondering if some of those places were allotted to students with chronic health problems/disabilities who might find it hard to commute even a short distance to campus and still be able to get the most out of their lectures. Thanks for any help!

Hi there,

Thanks for your question.

Accommodation information for continuing students with a disability/accessibility needs can be found on page two of our Student Accommodation Application and Allocation Policy 2024/25.

I hope this helps.

Best wishes

Hiya,

Are you a current student registered with the Disability and Neurodiversity office, a new incoming student to RHUL this Sept worrying about what happens this time next year, or an applicant wondering if RHUL is a good uni to apply to?

There used to be a specific person in Royal Holloway's disability office, who dealt with accommodation requests from people registered with the D&N office. I imagine that role of supporting accommodation requests still exists (the person is still there afaik, but not 100% sure if she still has the same role within D&N office).

Though I don't know the answer to your question personally (I'm a disabled PhD student who rarely has to come to campus and lives offsite), I'd be extremely surprised if disabled second year students registered with D&N didn't have an option to apply to continue in onsite campus accommodation. @anonymoususerUK is a RHUL student who may have more helpful info than I do :h:

EDIT: I just found this on the disability RHUL FAQ page:

The university is not able to offer accommodation to continuing students. The exception to this is disabled students who live in accommodation which has been adapted for them or which has existing adaptations that meet their disability needs.

Might be worth emailing the D&N office if you have specific worries/questions: [email protected]

Hi Sylvinor,

Thanks for your message.

Continuing students with accessibility needs that are registered with the Disability and Neurodiversity Team may be considered for on-campus accommodation if they have are confirmed as being recommended for accommodation.

Do let us know if you need any further information.

Best wishes,
