Hi, I’ve applied to Cambridge (4-year course), Durham, St Andrews, Warwick and Exeter for Classics/Classic Civ and am currently studying English, History and Maths. I did an Ancient Greek GCSE which I loved, but my school doesn’t offer A-levels in the Classics.
Predicted: A*, A*, A
My main concern right now is interview prep for Cambridge (if I get one!) as I am wondering if I’ll be tested on Ancient Greek ?

good luck!! I did history A-level last year
Not entirely sure whether this thread is just for undergrads, but I've applied for part time MSc Archaeology and Classics at Edinburgh via distance learning.

I'm just in my final year of BA Hons Classical Studies at the OU (studying part time)
(I'd previously started BA Hons Classical Civilisation at Leeds many years ago, but then dropped out after obtaining a CertHE, and later transferred credits over to the OU).

A Levels many moons ago were Classical Civilisation, French, and Spanish.

Hi guys! I’m a first year classics student at Durham so if you have any questions I’ll try my best to answer them!

I didn’t have any prior experience of ancient languages and I applied for Oxford (rejected after interview), Nottingham, Liverpool, and Manchester.

Hey, I've currently got offers from Bristol, Edinburgh, Durham and Royal Holloway for Classics (some +English), and am now just waiting on Oxford having been invited to interview next week. In addition to Classical Civ I take Religious Studies and English Literature. My worries right now are focused on preparing for interview and feeling confident on that - I applied to Magdalen college and have been called to three interviews with them!

I really do love classics at Durham! My professors are all really lovely and supportive, and I also find the level of work set is perfect for balancing free time and study.

At the time I thought my Oxford interview went quite well, as the professors said my answers were “interesting” but I am autistic so verbal, on-the-spot questioning isn’t really my thing. My feedback stated that my answers were stilted, but that they were impressed with my written work, which is true 😅.

Hi! I'm a bit late to the game on classics- originally applied for (and hold offers for) Biomedical Science but realised I definitely don't want to do that haha. Currently seeing if I can switch 2 of my offers, for Exeter and Kent to Classics and Classical Studies respectively. I don't do any humanities related subjects right now so I'm a little nervous but ah well

As long as you have an interest in the subject, and you don't mind a lot of reading and writing, then there's nothing to be nervous about.

I suppose the only one thing I'd point out is that Classics courses often involve learning an ancient language as a compulsory part of the course, whereas Classical Studies or Classical Civilisation have it as optional rather than compulsory. However it does depend on the uni too to some degree.

I think if you have a definite interest in classics and do some reading (iliad, odyssey, aeneid, anything by mary beard, ovid, greek tragedy/philosophy) or listen to podcasts (in our time, Natalie Haynes) you can demonstrate to yourself and the unis that you are a good candidate for it! Best of luck
