Maths Crest Award Topic

I'm starting year 12 and am thinking about doing the gold crest award to try and improve my uni application for maths, since I don't have many other things to write about and am interested in doing maths based research outside the curriculum. However, I can't think of any topics to do and can't find any inspiration. I'm also thinking about doing a physics-based project since it's still a very mathematical subject; would that still help my uni applications?

First off, have you talked with your teacher about it? They might have some ideas.
Application-wise, I have no idea. That might be a question to uni admissions team or someone who knows a lot about admissions.

But, let's pretend you're doing a project for fun, what topic(s) have you learned so far is your favorite?
