hello, i got accepted into university of leeds for september 2024. i just had a look at the timetable for computer engineering and i saw there's classes 5 days a week with 2 days full of classes from morning to evening. i want to know if students ever get time to work part time. i come from a low income family and i need to work to support myself as well as study hard. any leads would be helpful

Hey, it's definitely possible. I mainly did summer jobs and paid placements through uni but in my masters year I was in the lab minimum 9-5, 5 days a week, was on the committee for a society, and worked part time in the student union. You've just got to find a job that works around you! Jobs in places like the student union are great for that and there's a service called JobLink in the student union that can help you find suitable part time work alongside! I knew people who worked as teaching assistants, tutors, bartenders, retail workers, receptionists, etc. Throughout.

As someone also from a low economic background I know how stressful it can be thinking about money and budgeting at uni, but just make sure you're putting yourself and your health first. Don't overwork yourself, and make sure to enjoy the "student life" in first year as much as possible as it gets more intense the further you go.

Hope you have a great time!
