Sqa 2024 appeals

Hi I achieved ABCCC in my highers but was predicted AAAAA with 2 of the As being highest in the year. I know the priority appeal came out yesterday so I was wondering if anyone had any grade increases. I am certain I’ve been marked unfairly or they have missed a paper because my math teacher did the exam paper and gave us a copy where I scored 72% and I achieved 55% with sqa. Please let me know if you have received it so I know if I should expect nothing or keep my hopes up. Thanks

Hi there, now I'm not going to lie but I did do really well in my exam papers, especially maths, so maybe I can't talk too frankly about that. I know of some of my friends who knew they perhaps weren't going to do as well yet got even worse grades than hoped/expected.

The one thing I CAN talk about, which is a different subject, was my D&M folio which I performed a lot worse than expected, especially since my teachers saw what was sent away and marked since it was a project portfolio. I managed to get an A since I got full marks in the paper but the portfolio was dangerously low and very unexpected.

I think since the covid rules have kinda ended they have got a lot stricter with the marking and I honestly find it quite unfair since we never had the 'normal' courses before this. I can see your struggle

Honestly it’s so unfair, business for example I got a low B in, every single test I’ve ever done for it was band 1 A and I even got 100% in the assignment and confident I got 100% in the question paper. These results are so weird. The craziest part is for higher maths I noted down all my answers as I remembered them all after looking at the question paper which was put onto team by my teacher straight after the exam. He made a marking scheme and I got 72% on it and today sqa released their marking scheme and it was identical to my teachers yet they gave me 55%. I don’t even know what to say anymore

That is frankly completely irritating. I have heard of people having scores mixed up but never owning up to them (a friend's cousin got an A or B in a subject they did terribly in and knew themselves that grade was not possible). If that is what has happened, that is utterly frustrating and I have no idea where you can go from there. My whole school's attainment has gone down a lot compared to last year and we are doing a lot worse in our council area as well.

Not only that but the SQA have returned to the appeals of only recounting the marks to make sure they were added up right instead of being able to give evidence that you performed better and perhaps there was a problem or mixup.

I wish you the best and that you can work something out, otherwise it is really a shame.

Thank you man, it is a really bad situation seeing as I probably won’t get into Glasgow uni anymore but I appreciate your time. You know what’s crazy, due to my math teacher knowing my potential he allowed me to take adv h math and I’m the only person in the school to have gotten 100% in the test. This alone is more evidence i didn’t get a C in higher.

Anyway thanks so much for your time man, all the best.

I appealed AH bio and got a D instead of an F and at first I was told I got 26% but my mark increased to at least 33% so there is some hope.
Best of luck

No problem! I've heard from teachers how crazy the marking has been as lots of people have missed their grades for uni this year.

All the best for this year!

Thanks man biology I got A band 1 in both prelims and got an A in the assingment but somehow got a borderline C overall. I’ve appealed and hoping it’s fixed as in guessing they have missed papers
hey, aware you have already seen on another thread that I was awarded A after getting a B through priority appeals for Adv higher English. I can't speak for highers as I didnt appeal any but I did during Nat 5s for economics where I got a B in the exam after getting high A in prelim. Got regraded to an A and turns out the had forgot to mark my assignment! just wanted to show how they certainly do make mistakes and getting your appeal outcome is possible, really hoping for the best for you in October and totally understand the feeling of not getting the outcome you wanted and deserved..

Hi thanks so much for this, was this the old appeal process, I was given my assignment mark so what I think happened was they forgot a sheet

Biology is a subject that is very subjective, so one marker may think a response could get full marks, and others may think it could get none, it just depends on ur wording of responses.
Anyway best of luck in October 💪💪💪

I thought it was marking scheme specific. Now that you say this I fear maybe that has been the cause although I do still think A1 to a C is a bit of a stretch considering I also got an A in the assignment. But anyway I’m happy to hear your grade got boosted, thank you for your time man all the best

It’s a BIG stretch,if ur grade goes up it’s most likely going to go up to a. B.
But it’s not impossible, just very unlikely

I would definitely be happy with a B I just find it hard to believe I have went from the highest in my school twice to having a borderline C and I’m convinced they have missed a paper or something. Anyway you could be right about the marking and I can see that happening, besides a B is all I need for my uni course so I very much hope it does end up going up to that.

If I had a similar increase to you I would also be at a B which I would be happy with

The exact same thing happened with my higher maths exam. A day after the exam, a YouTuber known as “clelland maths” made a higher maths mark scheme and I marked my paper. I got 85/120. Now when SQA marked it, I got 63/120?!?!?!

i was predicted AABBC and ended up with AACCC. I was going for direct entry into medicine, but now I need to resit some of my highers and do a foundation year (Gateway2Medicine) which requires AABB at 2 sittings thankfully.

I feel the SQA was very strict on the mark scheme this year as all the Covid rules were gone, but even the 2019 results weren’t as bad as this. I feel the exams this year were flawed as they seemed very straightforward and easy, but the results came back as very low?!

Teachers and parents are calling out SQA on how the Higher History exam was marked unfairly (I never did higher history btw) and the government is doing jackshit about it saying the SQA can handle their own problems:

The fact that almost every single week, there has been at least ONE article about how unfairly the SQA marked everything.

That’s so true it happened to all my friends. My teachers marking scheme which I got 72% in maths with turns out to be the exact same as the sqa marking scheme which was posted last week and also the exact same as clelland maths ones which proves it has been 100% marked wrong. I hope we can get it fixed

I'm one of the Higher History appealants. Went from consistent As to a C. One mark off a B. Raging. Have complained to SQA and via MSP but standard response - you can appeal. They dont care.
