Getting an A at higher chemistry

I got a B at Nat 5, however I'm determined to get an A at higher. I'm already studying like 5 hours a week or something, and in my defence I would've done better if I'd had a better teacher last year. I have the same one this year, but I think I sort of understand his teaching method now. He doesn't think I can get an A though, and he gave me some statistics about how 3% of people that got a B at Nat 5 got an A at higher. Could anyone who managed to do this previously please give me some tips so I can get the grades I need?

Hi,
I got An A in Higher Chemistry (retook it tho). and a B at Nat 5
Firstly do past papers, all the way back to the 90's.
It may feel like a chore but its worth it.
I used the Jab Chem traffic lights for higher chemistry, to help me learn up all the info. and to make sure i'd consolidated my knowledge.
Theres some good flashcards on quizlet for each subunit; so i'd make good use of them.
Best of Luck

Thank you so much, its so nice to actually hear someone who's done it cause my teacher was starting to convince me that it was literally impossible <3

I went from a B4 at N5 to a A1 at higher.

You assignent is about 20 percent of your grade, so it does matter a lot so i'd advise looking at understanding standards and trying to revise what you are going to write down before you actually do your write up.

Honestly, I believe I got B at Nat 5 because I didn't speak up when I was confused, for higher, even if I thought it made me sound stupid, i'd ask for clarification, for my teacher to repeat it or do examples. I may have been a bit annoying with this put after class i'd ask my teacher any questions that I had about the lesson so he could clarify then and there and it would be fresh in my mind.

Mrs Adams on youtube, she had explanations and examples for the whole n5 and higher course, and was genuinely a life saver for me.

the how to pass and bright red textbooks were also really good, you can get them fairly cheap on vinted.

Can not stress enough, Past papers, if you don't do past papers you're putting yourself at such a disadvantage.

See is your school offers like after school study, my school offered an hour after school on like Wednesday for chemistry and since not a lot of people turned up to it I mostly was 1 on 1 with chemistry teacher which meant I could get as much help as I needed, could get him to explain thing in detail etc...
