Can I get in?

Hi there. I would like to apply to Politics and International Relations at the following universities: LSE, UCL, King's (they only do Politics there so I'll choose that), Warwick, Exeter and Royal Holloway. I need to take one out, but these are the six I am looking at.

With my stats below, what is the likelihood of me getting into these universities:

-GCSEs: (Completed) Religious Studies (9), English Literature (8), Geography (8), English Language (7), Biology (6), Chemistry (6), Mathematics (6), Physics (5), and German (5) - Average is 6.6

-A-Levels: (Predicted) Economics (A*), Philosophy (A*), and English Literature (A)

*I am still working on my Personal Statement.
*I am a home student.
*I have been state educated my entire life. However, my secondary school was below average and my sixth form now is outstanding to give some context.

Many thanks,

What's the spread of requirements?

Hi there,

It's great to hear you're interested in studying Politics and International Relations at Royal Holloway. You can contact our Admissions team here: [email protected]. Our team will be able to advise you further on the entry requirements.

In the meantime, you can find some more information about the course here: https://www.royalholloway.ac.uk/research-and-teaching/departments-and-schools/politics-and-international-relations/.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes,
Royal Holloway, University of London

What's the spread of requirements?

Hi there!

KCL: A*AA
LSE, Warwick, UCL: AAA
Exeter: ABB
Royal Holloway: BBB
Consider applying in phases. Something like King's, one or two of LSE/Warwick/UCL, plus either Exeter or RHUL. You should get some responses before the January deadline and that will hopefully tell you whether you need another lowish choice or can aim high.
That's what I was thinking too, but my school doesn't recommend to do this. It's so unfortunate.

They might not recommend it (though they should in many cases), but they can't stop you doing it. It's your application and your money paying for it.

I'll try to talk to my Head of Year soon and see what he says. Ultimately, we review and approve it together. Unfortunately, it's a standard rule for my Sixth Form.
Hi there! Of course (though it won't be much!). I found Philosophy really challenging at first because it’s intellectually demanding, and I often doubted my ability to understand it. However, once you shift your mindset, it becomes much easier. I know I'll get the hang of it eventually. A big reason for my grade is that my peers are extremely smart, and I learn a lot from them. When I don’t understand something, I ask the teacher, who explains it very simply with everyday examples, like the concept of analytic truth - such as a triangle being a three-sided shape.

What year are you in?

Getting your way around organisational bullsh1t is part of adult life. Point out that the school does NOT need to know the 5 unis to which you are applying. Their part in the process is to support you. They are not the focus; you are.
