always giving more than i recieve

over the years, i've realised that i always give gifts randomly, send sweet messages, and am endlessly supportive to people i like at the time. however, these friends usually toss me aside or stay superficial and never return my efforts. it hurts and i want to stop this cycle at uni - but it just comes naturally to me when i trust someone. maybe i trust too easily? please give me some life advice
