Hey! I have applied for 2025 Social Work undergrad at Uni of Brighton, Sheffield Hallam, Uni of Nottingham, Coventry and Oxford Brookes. Had my Brighton interview today and have been made an offer (still waiting to receive the conditions of it via UCAS). I have my interview for Hallam next week, Oxford Brookes on the 9th of Jan and Coventry on the 10th. Nottingham have sent me phase one so I just need to do the written assessment and then they will shortlist again. Anyone applying to Sheffield Hallam or Brighton, as these are my top 2? 😊

All universities include this in their emails when inviting you to interview, and it is told to all applicants so I don’t think this breaches the rules (I’ll remove if it does) but listen to them when they tell you to focus on the PCF and codes of ethics. It really does matter- know it, and know how you are going to talk about it  best of luck! I had my first interview today- it is nerve wracking but prepare what they tell you to well (make sure you read all emails and info packs) and you will be fine! They aren’t there to catch you out!

Update- I have had offers from Brighton and SHU!

Sheffield Hallam (firm) 120 UCAS points
Brighton (insurance) 96 UCAS points

I have interviews with my other 3 but I’m debating withdrawing them and confirming the 2 offers I have as I’m 99% sure I wouldn’t accept an offer from the others anyways and I find interviews so intimidating 😂

The process isn’t the nicest- icl. But, as long as you have a solid understanding of what they tell you that you should know (BASW is your go to for CoE and PCF)- and can prove you have done wider research and follow the field (talk about the Sharif case for example), you will honestly be okay.

Your first interview will be the one that feels the worst, but once you have done that, your confidence does raise. The preparation does pay off, and makes you stand out- from my most recent group interview, you’d be surprised how many people show up without any preparation and just bluff their way through it (everyone in the room could tell it was BS). At the end of the day, you are going there to learn the course and they don’t expect you to be a subject expert- they just want to see you are invested, have a basic grasp, and meet the requirements set by BASW to enroll

I’ve been reading a book that has been so so helpful-

Thompson, Neil. Understanding Social Work: Preparing for Practice. 6th Edition. London: Macmillan International Higher Education, 2023.

Have a look at this! The most powerful chapter to read when preparing for interview IMO is the debate and discussion he has around what, fundamentally, social work is.

Having been through a couple interviews now- I can’t really discuss exactly what is in the interview- but if you have any questions or want to talk about the process let me know! Best of luck 🤞

Daughter applied for social work. 4 interviews booked so far. Interview with Bristol was on 14th, offered a place on the 16th. It's her least preferred choice due to how expensive Bristol accommodation 2yr onwards is, and did the interview mainly for the experience.

is it normal to get an offer of 96 UCAS points? So far two universities have given me that offer, but on their website it is listed as needing the A-level grades BBB to BBC
