GYG YR 11 -----> hopefully getting the grades i want!!

hii! im currently going into yr 11 this september and i wanted to make a GYG to see if i could change my grade or at least be motivated to change my grade. hopefully i do!! i'm definitely not excited for yr 11 this year, seeing my timetable and classes that i'm in, it's defo not looking like a good year LOL. i also feel scared to go into yr 11 and i do regret wasting my summer by not doing much. i'll be very very honest, i have done some revision such as computing, i finished revising one whole component and studied a bit of an inspecter calls. i'll admit i have been unfocused though and that's the problem!!

when i get back, my gsce results hopefully turns out well since im aiming to get around 6-9s or all 9s but im not that confident that i'll even end up with a 9! i'm not a very fast learner and im pretty forgetful as soon as there is a exam paper right in front of me.

i really really want to get amazing grades as i want to do computer science in the future! but let's just say i'm not there yet.. especially with my computer science grades. i'll show you my results in a bit but if anyone is also going into yr 11 and gets way better grades than me then please help me out!! i really need it and i do regret failing my yr 10 mocks so badly... so please help me out with any advice on how to revise and focus!!! im also aiming to do higher for science and maths!!

my yr 10 mock results --->

biology (AQA) - 5
chemistry (AQA) - 5
computing (OCR) - 3 (my teacher INCREASED the grade boundaries)
english literature (AQA) - 4 (forgot the QUOTES for macbeth and my class never got taught how to do comparison paragraphs or that surprise extract thingie)
french (AQA) - 4 (i didn't write much for 40 mark questions)
geography (eduqas B) - 2 (i thought i did SOOO well but i guess i didn't)
maths (edexcel) - 2 (edexcel is the worst exam board omg)
physics (AQA) - 3 (i was 1 mark away from a 4)
RE (AQA) - 3 (i didn't revise much for re)

(ps: i did foundation for biology, chemistry, physics, french and maths)

as you can tell, i didn't do as good in my mocks and have no idea on how i will get my academic comeback for yr 11 mocks which i think is in december or january so please please please help me out. it's kind of embarrassing when i got my mock results back cause all my friends got way higher than me which makes me think im rlly dumb.

ill be really honest, i was completely lost when it came to my yr 10 mocks. i had no idea on how to revise or what resources i should use. im also a person who forgets everything as soon as i enter the exam hall.

i really want to get good grades like my friends so i wouldn't have to embarrassed about telling my friends about my grades.

so please please PLEASE!!! im begging you if anyone has any advice or anything honestly idc what it is you can say it cause who knows it might make a difference!!!!

i REALLY REALLY need to get so good im not even joking.. please anyone help me out i need this so badly to a point i'm literally crying for help. i really want to make my parents proud and i need my yr 11 mocks to be soo good like 6-9s

if you read this all, tysm for reading through it and for leaving any other advice!! this will be a blog and i'll update you guys throughout my academic year on here on how much revision i did everyday and if i need help w something else

stay tuned till august 2025 when i find out what i get for my gsces and follow my journey in what i've been wanting for so long and i finally ended up getting the grades i wanted!!

Heyyy
Firstly, I have moved your GYG to the 2024/25 forum so it’s more easily found for any competitions

Also don’t think you are dumb because everyone has different abilities and honestly anything could happen during the exam.

For english language and maths practice is the best way to improve to be honest so cgp is great and so is corbett maths. Also give answers to your teacher to mark for english is you know how to get the most marks and for time management
For sciences keep doing revision and then past paper questions so you know how to answer specific questions and know command words.Seneca and cognito are great for general revision
Geography I did a different exam board but memeorising all your case studies and making really good notes in class and write loads of practice answers
Computing and RS I can’t really give advice on because I’m auite bad at it but the computing seneca for ocr is quite useful
English literature you will need to mate quite banks for all characters and themes as well as writing practice answers
I did Spanish but for French I would recommend getting really confident in the tenses and knowing how to use fancy grammatical features in really simple ways that can be adapted to all topics

Yeah I completely agree with the other reply but also ok exam technique in general, I would try to do a few timed past papers for each subject to get used to how to answer all questions in the right time. In my experience, it doesn't matter how good you are at the subjects, if the exam technique isn't there you will struggle - luckily it is something that can be learnt so don't worry!
When you get into the exam itself, try to keep calm and before they even start, go over everything you remember in your head so it doesn't stress you out too much <3
If you want to do the higher exams in subjects as well, you will need to improve your results and probably learn the other topics by yourself but that is very possible!

The other thing is - please don't be embarrassed about your grades! If you know you worked the hardest you could for them you have to be happy about them! And remember some people just naturally excel at exams and remembering without even putting that much work in so just be happy with yourself and don't compare!

If you want any help in maths or science you can message me or ask in your GYG and I'll try to respond if you want?
Good luck! <3

i want to start off by saying thank you SOOO much for the advice!! i didn't expect anyone to even reply to this

today was my first day of yr 11 and it was okay tbh 😭 i wasn't expecting much anyway. i also have good news!!! i found out i actually moved up to set 1 english surprisingly!! i also found out that im doing higher tier for maths too which is good but i only have an issue with science. good thing is that i still have a chance of moving up sets and doing higher instead of foundation!

my maths teacher also told us the topics we would be doing for this half term so ill just start revising since i do have a october exam coming up.

ill update you guys whenever i can!!

THANK UU!! i checked the qualification and its both physical and human and i think it's a coastal area

Oh so this one will be your physical fieldwork and you will be looking at the coastal defences like hard and soft engineering and probably seeing how effective they are. It's gonna be cold sos definitely make sure you wear layers because that's something I regret not doing during my fieldwork

Hi I do triple science aqa and i personally as of right now (few weeks b4 mocks) am really benefiting from doing past paper questions. Even if you don't know the content attempt ehat you can, mark it yourself in the harshest way possible to your recognising questions.then you know what you need to work on as a whole topic e.g "cells" and what you need to work on in the actual gcse paper. "4 mark explain questions"

For maths, I'm struuuhgling well as struggle as 1 can be struggling doing higher tier but I've been getting better tmgt on YouTube really helped. Cognito maths helped I used the website, maths genie, save my exams, pmt and exam q, it's so underrated but it's rlly good for past paper questions and js being comfortable answering questions under a certain topic.

I'm SORRY I'm a ramblers hope this helps
