The Quads, University of Bath

Any reviews??? I got Quads Dawson.
Hello @trixster06 !

Huge congratulations on getting your place here at Bath! Trust me, you have so many exciting times ahead!

When I was a student I did not live in the Quads but have visited friends who lived there and have stayed there whilst working at the uni during the summer. I would say...

Positives:

1.

The interior is more sleek and modern than most accommodation options - I loved the large kitchens, the moodlights in the rooms and, and the abundance of plugs for laptops, phones etc

2.

Each Quads block has a separate social space which is like a lounge with modern wallpaper, a sofa, a large screen you and tables which make it a very social block with plenty of space and ideal for games nights, flat get-togethers etc. My friends used to plus their laptops into the screen via a HDMI connection and watch football matches and have film nights.

3.

The location is on the far east side of campus which is more modern and cosier than the west side. This is also much closer to the bus stop, the lime tree cafe and the Chancellors' building (humongous, golden, made mostly of glass) where a lot of lectures are. The east is definitely a prettier location!

Negatives:

1.

The individual rooms are smaller than most other accommodation blocks and you get less floor space, but hopefully having the lounges as extra (no other accommodations have these!) makes up for this. Plus, you won't be spending an awful lot of time at uni just in your dorms as you'll be largely out and about, at classes, in the library etc.

2.

Quads overload! There are five different Quads blocks and so if like me you are quite forgetful it can be easy to get lost, especially if you are coming back after a night out.

I hope this helps, trust me I'm sure you'll have a lovely time in the Quads, they're a lovely modern space and I would say most reminiscent of a block of city flats than any of the accommodations on campus

Best of luck!

Advice for all Uni Halls - get one of those '4 seasons' duvets with the two layers that you can attach together or just use one during warmer months.

A cotton blanket is also useful for either cuddling round you on colder nights or using as a solo bed cover when its very warm.

Hello again!

Not a silly question at all. There are radiators underneath the desks in Quads rooms which you can turn up or down to control the temp. I used to have mine in Westwood in the middle, and coped very well with a medium-tog duvet. If you have a warmer duvet you may be able to turn the radiator down at night to save a bit of energy! It really depends how cold/warm you get. Also like the idea of a 4-seasons duvet (thanks @McGinger !) but be aware these may be more expensive in some shops than standards.

I hope that helps, best of luck and please post any more questions right here

Hi Holly,

Thank you so much and I really appreciate your response! Do you know roughly how many people share a flat in Quads?

Thanks

Each quads flat/floor is shared between 8-10 people so quiet a nice number I'd say - small enough to not feel crowded out but large enough to have a good group of people to socialise with and get to know!

In my experience there are plenty of plug sockets in all bedrooms but as far as I know not ethernet ports. However if its connecting a router you need this for then you won't need it as there is around-campus wifi which is fairly fast. If you still feel you need your own ethernet ports then you will need to bring your own adapters/docking station.

I hope that helps!

I'm in quads ebony right now, some of my flatmates found the rooms to be quite cold so have had the radiator on the whole time (but we have full control over whether our room radiators are on or off), i didnt turn my heating on at all for 4 months because my room was quite warm but i also have an awful lot of blankets so they mightve contributed to the warmth. Generally the whole flat is a comfortable temperature though
