what ipad shall i get!

Hey all! So i'm going to University this September and i've wanted an Ipad for the past 4-5 years, however never felt like i could justify it. I already have a macbook pro m1 2020, and it's great especially because my course has coding and programming involved. The current ipads i'm looking at are from backmarket, and it's between the 2021 m1 12.9 inch ipad pro or 2022 11 inch ipad pro. I really want to write notes, watch lectures and hopefully use the split screen function. Which iPad do you recommend? and do you have anything else important to consider?

@hansbananz ,

Congrats on getting your place at uni! I powered my way through my lectures whilst at uni with a lovely touchscreen Dell laptop, but I had friends who preferred to use IPads and they all went with similar models to your choices. I know it can be difficult not being able to interact with them in the shops, but are there any youtube demos you can watch instead? Some things I'd consider are:

Microsoft compatibility - most lectures are based on powerpoints, worksheets on word, and online lectures on Teams, and so how easy is it to run this system on there? Also perhaps check if it runs both Edge and Chrome. Relatedly...

Processor speed/power/storage. How much RAM and internal storage, for example? When I was at uni I was constantly needing upwards of ten tabs open all at once. A more powerful processor with more RAM will be able to handle this better. Finally...

Is it right for what you want it to do? Which you've said is: write notes, watch lectures and split your screen. Look at the specs, ask your parents opinions, try to choose one that fulfills the functions you want and don't be distracted by add ons such as cameras, screen quality and IPad size etc.

Lastly, whether or not you want to get an IPad is totally up to you, and if it will really help you - go for it! However they are expensive things, and as a student you'll likely be needing to save up as much money as you can. So do consider the added value an IPad will offer on top of your Macbook.

I hope that helps a bit - best of luck in the coming weeks :smile:
