Accommodation transfer

Hi, this question is for current students of University of Manchester
I've applied for accommodation at the University of Manchester as soon as I received my offer, specifically requesting an en-suite bathroom and a location close to campus. However, I've been assigned a room with only a washbasin, no renovations, and a shared bathroom. I contacted the accommodation office to request a transfer, but due to a lack of vacancies, they couldn't offer me one.

They mentioned that I could apply for a transfer again on the 16th of September, but it's not guaranteed. I'm unsure whether I should cancel my current accommodation and start looking for private options or wait for a potential change. I've already provided the accommodation office with ten alternative options in my previous email, but there were no available spaces.

Has anyone else experienced something similar? Do you think it's worth waiting for a transfer, or should I explore private accommodations now?
Thank you in advance

This is just what happens. It depends how badly you want that ensuite. My advice is that it's honestly not worth it in the slightest to have an ensuite, the money you'll save is far more use to you than having your own bathroom. I stayed in both ensuite and non-ensuite accommodation during my first year and I can honestly say that the only advantage that the ensuite has is not having to wait when you're desperate for the toilet.

Unless you have a medical reason for needing an ensuite (which should be declared to student services already), you aren't likely to get one. You could try the accommodation swap thread: https://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=7458834 to see if another person has something that you want to trade. However, that discussion is 90% people without ensuites, looking for ensuites - like yourself.

If you have money to burn and don't care about possibly having lots of anti-social people as flatmates - go private. But if I were in your shoes I would keep the room I've got.
