Hello, I haven’t received my maintenance loan yet however it’s predicted to be around £6k for the whole year. However, my accommodation itself is £8k a year. My family cannot afford this, and as a student living away from my family in central London, I was aware that the maintenance loan could be up to £13k+, despite the fact that that is not guaranteed. I am also aware that the amount you get is based on your family income, however my family income is only around £14k as my parents are both ill and so I don’t really understand why mine is so low. This worries me as I don’t know what I’ll be able to do, as I was already considering declining my place to get a full time job at home to provide for my parents. Is there anything I can do?

Hi Sofia. Have your parents provided their income and has your application been income assessed? If so, just to check, has their income dropped by 15% or more from the 22/23 Tax Year compared to this current Tax Year (24/25) ? Thanks, David

Yes they have ☹️
Sorry Sofia just to confirm are you saying there has been at least a 15% drop in income? Thanks, David

Yes 🙂

Okay thank you. In this case, they would be eligible to apply for a Current Year Income assessment. This is where we will reassess your entitlement based on their current year figures and then ask for evidence of the drop at the end of the tax year. You can find this form below and once complete you can upload this online and it takes around 33 working days to be processed.
