Durham: Failing a Resit

A friend of mine recently failed a resit for a first-year core module for CS (20 credits) by 1%. Unfortunately, they have been asked to be an out-of-residence student and attempt the exam again at the end of the 24/25 academic year.

Most of the people in the department and college have suggested an academic appeal is very likely to be rejected.

Does anyone here have experience dealing with such an issue? What would be the next step, seeing as they do not want to stay out of residence. Ideally, they would like to progress onto Year 2 (or repeat Year 1 at the most).

I don’t think there’s much else that can be done. Allowing her to resit the exam next year is already a concession. Ordinarily you would be required to withdraw from the university if you failed a core resit.

Nonetheless, the best option is for her to talk to her college's student support team.
