Withdrawal from uni appeal

I recently found out that I have been withdrawn from the university due to academic failure. This past year I have had an extremely severe case of scabies which has been going up and down. I have had meetings about it and my welfare with this centre before. In June I had contacted them again as I found out I was getting referred assessments, and was scared. By then I was on a new treatment plan and it seemed to be going well. However, it had not gone just only calmed down a little and then it decided to come back even harsher in July and it was only getting worse going into August.

With the help of my brother I was able to submit the mitigation forms for an extension twice as I was determined to get the work done even in this condition but it was simply impossible. I then contacted 111 as I was not able to get appointments with my local GP to get checked out because I was no longer registered there. 111 had told me my family may have reinfected and that I should stay away from my house and family for a few days while I take stronger Ivermectin.

Then I decided to go stay at one my dad's guesthouse for a few nights whilst my family are getting treated and I am. For those nights I could not sleep or eat even, I was being delivered food but unable to eat as all I wasted to was just itch and itch and tear my skin off. There were hives on every single part of my body but my head. Due to my health conditions I was not able to submit an additional mitigation form within the 24 hour deadline I was given. Also I had lost my phone the night before the 24 hour deadline started so I was hit with a lot of bad luck

I am in contact with my doctor to get evidence about this now but I was wondering as I have been contact with you guys before the assessment deadlines whether you could provide me with some helpt or form of evidence. I have been struggling mentally and physically this past year and my mental health has taken such a huge toll, I have lost 10kg in weight because even eating is such a huge task for me. I am really scared because I have been withdrawn and I believe APAC does not understand the true extent of my condition. Recently it has started slowly fading away. I just want one chance to truly prove myself and show I am capable of progressing get my degree here as I have settled in and do not want to be forced out.

Do you think this is strongenough for an appeal

That sounds very difficult for you. I’m hoping you’ve got some good photos to submit to demonstrate your pain and suffering? It all has to be evidenced.
I’m wondering how it’s got to June before you found out you were being referred? If the university haven’t had meetings with you before then, then i would suggest it’s v difficult for them to refer you. If they can demonstrate that they’ve supported you, met with you to help you understand where you’ve gone wrong with course work and given you 2nd chances to resubmit course work, which you’ve either failed again or not submitted, then it looks like you might have to repeat the year.
It really depends on what their grounds are and whether you can submit a plea for mitigation on those grounds.
I hope this makes sense and you get well again. X

I've got photos tp show how bad it was on my skin and letters from doctors for when i contacted them. I do not mind repeating the year as it would be helpful because of how tough this last year has been. It would be a way to catch up essentially. I just don't think they will let me repeat the year because i did not defer the reassessed coursework I was meant to complete jn the 24 hour deadline they gave for mitigation because I was really suffering at that time. Thank you for your reply
I think its definelty strong enough for an appeal. Write a good statement explaining the timeline well, aswell as the symptoms that you have experienced, and get the GP letter as an evidence. You will have given yourself the best chance possible.

That sounds very positive esp with the photos. You sound like you’ve had a really difficult time and being given 24 hours to submit for mitigation does not sound reasonable to me. You seem to be really keen to learn so I really would be very clear about your pain and suffering and the prolonged nature of what you’ve been experiencing. Just start your mitigation setting out your reasons in chronological order, be clear and try and evidence your illness with dated photos. I’m sure you will get another chance. Has the scabies cleared up now? You need to be approaching your next year from a position of strength. Wishing you well. X

Yh I'm trying to get a second GP letter, what I didn't mention. The day they gave me the 24 hours deadline. I had my phone sfilen that exact day when I was at the guesthouse and tried to go for a walk for ice packs to help with the itching. I have a crime report and reference number for it too which may help out

I'm not sure I'll be able to find dated photos to the exact week of August where it came back as I did not take many, but I can definitely find many during the year and some for August. Giving a 24 hour deadline just seems u fair to someone who barely can do anything. What's worse is that I had my phone stolen when I was going on a walk for ice packs to help with itching. My phone being stolen that day meant I couldn't access my email account and most university website as they have 2fa with my number and it's so weird the Microsoft authenticator app only works for the first device u pair it with so I couldn't log in unless I got that phone back or contacted them but my dad tried as I was bedridden. The call for their it desk rang for a bit beeped and ended so I could not even access my emails to know my mitigation failed. I have the crime reference number

Given the severity of your health issues and the impact they’ve had on your academic performance, I believe you have a strong case for an appeal. It's important to gather all relevant medical documentation and evidence of your condition to support your appeal. Those guys are great and helped me lot in difficult times.
Shame on you. This student is obviously in a very vulnerable situation and you are encouraging them to cheat and jeopardise their position on their course. You’ve dressed up your post to appear supportive to the OP but it is just another attempt to make money from someone’s vulnerability.

From reading the above, I hope you are recovering well and taking care of yourself.

I was in a similar situation to yourself, except mine was more bereavement related. Does your university have student liaison officers? If so, I would suggest emailing them and explaining your situation. They will help you appeal. I did this for mine, and they even checked my appeal form, the letter explaining what happened, and my evidence. They makesure you have all the right evidence etc for a higher chance of having a successful appeal. By reading what you've wrote, you have a pretty strong case and should be able to either repeat the year or be given some leeway. Good luck with it all and hope you feel better asap.

Hi, your health is important. Its good you have got treatment. Would moving out be an option? The university might understand this. The university needs you to get better.

Just heard back today and the appeal was partially upheld, I’ll be able to resist the modules but not the year, resit without attendance.
