Hi! I’m currently studying 1st year pharmacy, I’ll do my best to answer your questions!
The course is really interesting with lots of information to absorb, some bits I find really enjoyable, others I struggle with but overall a great course.
Honestly just find people who are similar to you. Friend groups were made quickly but everyone is in the same boat on freshers week! It can get quite ‘cliquey’ quite quickly but they will mix groups regularly to help you meet others! Kind of hard to tell if people are clever. It’s not really like school - there are 170 of us so hard to know who’s clever. But you have to really put in work and it’s unlikely you will get results close to what you may have got in school. Studying is different, lectures are different than being taught in school but hopefully college will introduce you to that!
In first year, 4 modules - 4 class tests (20%) - 4 exams (80%) - all exams on computers in the university, closed book. 2 are before Christmas and 2 are after - all multi choice in first year with slightly different questions types each time. 5th module has a few lab reports, a numeracy assessment, an OSCE, Placement in the new year.
Haven’t noticed anyone dropping out yet but it is a big group and we aren’t that far into the year yet! Be aware, people are more likely to be kicked out from failing exams too much as opposed to dropping out. You only get limited resits - especially the numeracy exam!
There have been 2 GROUP presentations so far. They haven’t counted towards anything, just been put in random groups to meet other people. You present in a kind of classroom almost, in front of about 80 people but they are all in the same boat - I promise it’s not that scary!
Good luck! Feel free to ask any more questions you think of and I’ll do my best to answer them for you 😄
