Should I do an EPQ?

I’ve just started year 12 and have chosen Psychology, Sociology and Religious Studies A levels as well as an EPQ with the intention of studying education and university and becoming a primary school teacher. My school has now given me the option to volunteer at a local primary school instead of doing an EPQ. This is something that I would like to do and I already volunteer with girlguiding and have done work experience in a school but I am definitely interested in doing more. It would be great to have more time to allow for this since I also work on Sundays and am concerned about finding time for additional volunteering. However I also know that some unis may give me a lower offer if I do well in an EPQ so I’m not sure which one to pick. In case it’s relevant, I am interested in applying to Cambridge but I’m still not sure if I would go since the course isn’t as appealing to me as others.

you should do one if you are genuinely interested in doing one and passionate about the topic that you're researching. otherwise, it is not that impressive to universities so don't do it solely for your uni application

ask your year above for their experiences. differs from school to school but our teaching style left a lot of people confused and it was the biggest source of stress in Y12 by far. could be interesting though- just a lot of waffling needed
