Yes.
One of the trainees at my firm had a completely different career for 5 years and started their training contract in their late 20s.
I know a woman who is part way through her pupillage in Dublin (pupillage is called Devilling in Dublin and in Edinburgh). She did a law degree at TCD in the 1990s, worked as a journalist, and passed the Irish Bar exam last year.
