year 12 work at beginning

so i've just started year 12 and im doing 2 sciences and psychology. I really want to do well in my subjects but my teachers have told me it is very hard. They have told me that good students do 5 hours extra work outside the classroom a week for each subject, however i need to know what else i'm meant to be doing in these hours? Also we haven't learnt much yet so there's not much to go over or revise. Am i meant to be doing all this stuff from the very start because i also don't want work to build up either?

my teachers said something similar they said you just need to make sure you have a good understanding of our current notes and maybe do some research around the topic to make sure you fully comprehend, I assume they don't mean imediatly as we've done very few lessons ands most a gcse recap or introduction. hope this helped

Last year I didn't really spend too much time thinking about how much I was doing. I mainly just made notes and revision resources and revising for tests when I knew about them. After Christmas I spent more time revising. I mainly did about 4 hours per week at this point but not every week. I would do different amounts of revision per week depending on how well I knew the subject. I struggle with Maths more and so spent more time focusing on maths then my other subjects.

We were told around 3-4 hours for the first term until we had more content to revise. After that we were told around 4-5 hours per subject per week. This would include any homework we had to do. I would use this time at the moment to make revision resources and spend time doing questions to check your understanding of the topics. Also, it is more the quality of the revision rather than the amount of time that you spend revising.
