Can I do A Levels and BTEC Level 3 together to apply for university next year?

Hi everyone,

I’m currently studying for a BTEC Level 3 Foundation Diploma in IT (Cloud Computing) at Stockport College. Still, I’ve recently learned that the UCAS points from this qualification might not be enough to get me into university, as they are lower than the Extended Diploma.

I wonder if I could take A Levels alongside my BTEC to boost my UCAS points. Is it possible to do both A Levels and BTEC in the same year? If so, how many A Levels would I need to take, and where could I study them while still enrolled at Stockport College?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks

HI, so BTEC Level 3 Foundation Diploma, is = to 3 a levels. According to google.
So how many points are you behind on?

And I think it depends on the college, for example mine doesn't let you mix qualifications.
Which now means that im doing an extra a level, privately.
So for myself, my btec is = to 2 a levels, rather than 3.
To now attain a qualification that is 3 a levels, I may be doing another a level subject, privately.

For you, ask your college if they can let you into an a level subject, and if they don't then look online and do it privately if you want. And then it'll be possible for you to do both at the same time. And you might just need to one a level, see how many more points you want/need, and then see.

Lmk if you have any more qs, All the best!

its a 2 year course, so its 1.5 per year. two years gives u all 3 a levels?
well that's the way its at my college, maybe its different all around.
but yeah, definitely ask your college for a top up or a push up. its worth it

I’m not sure! At my college it’s 1.5 per year and 2 years makes it 3 complete a levels. And certificate is 1 a level and then national diploma second year makes it 2 in total.

Please make sure with your college!

BTEC are linear, 2-year qualifications, so you don’t cash in until the end. According to Pearson, a foundation diploma is worth the same as 1.5 A-levels. The extended diploma is equivalent to 3 A-levels.
To answer the question, it is possible to do a mix of BTEC and A-level and a lot of uni’s accept this. I did an extended certificate (1 A-level) and diploma (2 A-levels) but my brother is doing 2 extended certificates plus one A-level.

Yeah my college is very confusing with them tbh, that’s why I said to do your research and make sure your on a = to 3 a levels. If you only want to do level 3. Because that’s why I wanted and I accidentally got put onto certificate which turned into national diploma in my second year now.

Ohh

I’m doing a national diploma, and planning on one a lebel. Would that be okay?

What subjects are you doing?

Univer of Manchester studying Busienss management, I did a level business a level phych and BtEc sports, very random combination but it’s often about the grades that u get and the UCAS POINTS rather then the actual subjects, some girl in my courses did sconce subjects only and still doing busienss management in a russel group uni, dww about doing btecs, id say just do it it’ll make ur life easierrr especially in year 13 towards exam season

I finished last year with D*D in double sport and D in tourism. I got 4 offers for business and management at uni but decided to go down the higher apprenticeship route instead.
My bro is doing single sport, tourism, and A-level business.
