Insanities and shenanigans of a psychology student

Well why, hello there to my second year of psychology at university

The academic year is yet to begin but we're all getting ready for another year at Queen Mary. Friends and familiar faces have started trickling down to London from all over the country - and the world - and I have spent some time these last few weeks catching up with people as they come back here to London because, that's a thing nobody warns you about university and that is how looooooooooong the summer break is. You have to understand, I had my last lecture in April and completely finished university business in May. I have been on holiday since and my first scheduled lecture is still not on for two more weeks! Swimming in free time is fun at first, and it was, but after a while one just simply starts bouncing off the walls because you don't know what to do with yourself when everyone but yourself is out of town :eek3:

And to get into the university spirit, I'm writing this in the Queen Mary library! I visited for old time's sake and to check that nobody has nicked my bike, which has been parked in Mile End without being used since May and, surprisingly, without being stolen. That's a very impressive achievement in these parts but it also tells you what a worthless piece of junk it is

Anyways, I'll be doing some online work training now before I need to head off. And while I still have free time. But that's uni for you!

Until the proper start of uni,
SY
Hey!
I’m joining QMUL in September to do BA History.

Do you have any advice about QMUL in general?
Looking forward to see how you are doing
Well done on not getting your bike stolen

Hello! Terribly sorry in getting back to you.

I would recommend to use your lecturers and academic advisor. They won't bite and they're there to help you if you have any questions on doubts and, they will be exceedingly happy to help you! I would also go to as many events as you can during freshers and to put yourself out there. It's a fun university to be in, full of opportunities to do both fun things and good things for your future, if you're looking for them. Don't ignore your emails and pay close attentions to the semi-frequent job opportunities or events emails you'll get. They have some real gems in there.

Hope you enjoy your time at Queen Mary!

Thanks 🙂

It's been a very hectic last week of summer, catching up with even more people and having one last hurrah before university starts. I mentioned in my last post that actually, university starts on two weeks, so I technically have one week left but it's freshers week now and I am booked to help out on many things around campus throughout the week, as well as having some societies committee meetings to fully hash out our plans for this upcoming academic year! And after that... uni starts for real, and so does this GYG, where you'll hopefully read about me attempting and succeeding to repeat my last year's hat-trick of achieving a 1st on all my modules! Wish me luck (I'm going to need it...)
@Scotland Yard This is a nice little post, keep up the updates on your journey. I did an MSc in Psychology and had a great time

following....now that I'm a uni student I love seeing uni blogs💜💜
(also not getting ur bike stolen in east london is very impressive!!)
What a week... and it's only Tuesday.

Been away from the forum for much, much longer than I intended, because uni came back with a vengeance. I also started working. I only work one hour a day, three days a week, which isn't a lot, but since I got my job on the other side of London from my university, this was, in hindsight, not the brightest idea. I thought because it was close to my home it would be alright, but it's not amazing when I have to rush from the university to my work, and then back to the university. Crossing London three times a day is not fun and I had to do it twice last week :s-smilie:

But I'm back, alive (just about). Been doing my pre-reading for the lectures but between today and tomorrow, I want to pull the oft-heard of and legendary but rarely achieved trick of being one week ahead of my work. I set myself this goal thinking that I will probably fail but there's no harm in trying anyway. So, between this evening and tomorrow, I will do:

An approximate 200 pages of reading

Catch up with the statistics module

Read up some studies about manipulating people

I don't want to manipulate people, but we do have this group project in which we have to create an advert with the purpose of changing human behaviour, hence why I need to read studies about, basically, manipulating people. Hugely interesting stuff, actually, and finally going into the juicy stuff of psychology, but it has the unintended side effect that my homework makes me sound evil
