Computer science

Hi, I'm doing A level sociology and maths with Btec level 3 national extended certificate in computing and core maths. I was wondering if it would allow a wide variety of good progression opportunities in computing such as universities, colleges, or apprenticeships. I would also like to know if I can apply for scholarships with these subjects because I'm not entirely sure how everything works as I've only started year 12.
Any help will be appreciated.
You question is very broad and difficult to answer.
By progression, do you mean entrance requirements for courses? If so yes it will for many universities but it will also close down a few. You'll need to look at the entrance requirements on course pages
Scholerships are different for each university so you will need to look at what they offer. An example of a university that would accept your subjects and offers a good range of bursaries would be Aberystwyth in Wales.

Hello!

For computing, most universities only state A-Level Maths as a required subject, so since it is one of the subjects you study, you are in a good position to do Computer Science at university. However, because you have a mixture of A-levels and BTEC, it would be best to contact the university admissions to check your entry requirements.
You have a range of options aside from the university too - such as apprenticeships, degree apprenticeships, etc. I would encourage you to do more research into all the options available, what they offer, and their requirements.
You can apply for scholarships if they are offered by the universities, and there are externally offered scholarships as well. For example, Lancaster University has been automatically offering the students who achieve above AAA at A-level a monetary grant. Similar scholarships and a range of bursaries are offered across many universities.

Hope this helps,
Polina,
Lancaster University Student Ambassador.
