Help me get into film

I want to go into film but im not doing any a levels relates to film because my dad doesn't think they are "real". Does anyone have any recommendations of things I can do to help me? Preferably around North/central London and fairly cheap, I have looked at some university short courses (e.g. the ual ones) but they are so expensive and while my parents might pay for one I want to do quite a bit of stuff. Any ideas or recommendations appreciated

I'm currently about to begin studying a bachelors degree in Film, TV, Radio, & Media Production at Liverpool Hope University. All i needed to get in my A-levels were 112 UCAS points, it didn't matter what courses i did! Unfortunately it's not London but the accommodation on campus is great and very affordable, and Liverpool is a very good city for the arts! Living on the Creative Campus of Hope comes with doing an arts course, and its right near the city centre which gives you loads of access to cinemas and theatres, etc.
In my opinion it's a really good course because of how diverse your options are afterwards. Its exactly what it says on the tin 😄 When you sign up for the course, you automatically have to study the university's Film & Visual Culture course too, which means you get both theory and practical work. I love this course because although i know i want a career in the film industry in the future, i have no idea what it is i want to do yet. And that's why i chose this course, as it doesn't leave you with limited options afterwards. You get to study analyse film and TV, and also make films, TV, radio and podcast programmes, you get to do screenwriting, camerawork, casting, editing, there's animation, and even photography! There's so many opportunities for future careers, as you will get experience in almost everything! As far as your parents' opinions go, a career in the media production industry can be very rewarding, as is definitely a 'real' job! Films, TV, podcasts, the radio and photographs are things we listen to, watch and look at every day, its hard to escape! So think about how many people work behind the scenes in the media production industry to create these programmes etc. And there is always a demand for more, and therefore more jobs. I think this course is definitely worth a look at 😄 Hope i could be of help! 👍️

Hi there,

I just graduated from Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) studying film & TV Production and learned a lot of cool things that are helping me slowly get into the film industry/community.

The university offers different courses related to film / media studies and writing.
Here are some links if you'd like to check them out:
ARU Film courses

What's great about ARU and studying film here was the ability to book out professional film equipment and get lots of practical training - as well as build new CONNECTIONS!
It is also alright if you don't have any background in film or don't take A levels related to film - as long as you are interested in the subject and are willing to learn and create film!

I really hope this helps - make sure to follow your heart and your passions as that is something you will be stuck with for a while ⭐️
