Hey @Maizeak,

It's awesome to hear that you are thinking about the University of Southampton for your studies in Business. As a business management student myself, I am happy to share my insights about studying here to help you make an informed decision.

The University of Southampton is ranked 80 on the QS World University Rankings 2025. Southampton Business School has an excellent reputation both in the UK and globally.

The Business Management course here is great! I personally found it to be incredibly rewarding as it has a well-rounded approach, combining theoretical knowledge with practical cases and real-world applications. The coursework and exams are designed in a way to help students gain practical knowledge and experience. The lectures are taught by seasoned professors that carry a wealth of experience. This always makes me excited to attend lectures, knowing I will leave with new insights and perspectives.

The course offers a diverse range of module choices, allowing students to personalise their module selection and learn about topics that interest them. You can find detailed information about the module choices for each year here. Additionally, you can also consider the study abroad or placement degree options. These opportunities can greatly enhance your CV and provide valuable work experience, which will strengthen your employability prospects.

Beyond academics, the university provides students access to a wide range of opportunities and activities that can help them gain work experience and develop essential skills. Whether it’s on-campus jobs, enterprise events, recruiter fairs, training programs, or internships, there is something for everyone! I was a student ambassador during my first year, and I found it to be a great way to make some amazing new friends and earn money, all while balancing it with academics.

Personally, I am really enjoying my time here as the student life is extremely fun and exciting. Southampton is a lively and student-friendly with good connectivity to London and other cities. The university has a vibrant campus with green spaces and beautiful gardens. During my first year, I felt that there was always something happening that I could get involved in! There are plenty of events taking place on the campus, and there are also many pubs and places you can go out to with friends.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reply to this and we will get back to you as soon as we can!

All the best,

What area of business are you looking at? Ideally you want more quant focus and to pick ones targeted by IB, as they WILL be the best. Too many universities offer degrees in business, and most of them are useless. Subjects to ensure that you now cover to some level:

Game Theory
Econometrics
Algebraic Topology
Accounting
Statistics
Strategy
....and you need to learn Python, and some other programming languages

That will slim your search down.

Crucially, what professional bodies recognise the course.

What sector are you motivated to work in? Built Environment - just target Reading, Cambridge, UCL, and Sheffield.

Good luck!!

Hi @Maizeak

Kingston University has a great business school.

There are many different courses to choose from I will add a few links here that you may find useful to look into Business courses - Undergraduate courses - Kingston University London
Kingston Business School Faculty of Business and Social Sciences Kingston University London

Kingston Business School is recognised for many reasons with accreditation from awarded from by the AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business). They are also the no.1 university for graduate start-ups.

The business school is based at the Kingston Hill campus, which a lovely campus with lots of nature but also not too far from central London. There are lots of great facilities for you to use such as a Bloomberg trading room, IT facilities and the Kingston Business Incubator, a purpose-built room with facilities to help you start your own business.

I would really recommend attending one of our open days, the next open day is Saturday 19th October and there will be more throughout the year just keep an eye out on the website.

I hope this helps and gives you anther option to consider

Hey @Maizeak,

I hope you're keeping well. 🙂

That list looks pretty good to me!
Given that this thread has turned a little bit into an ad space, I hope it'd be alright to shamelessly give you a little perspective on why you should maybe consider Kent a little more closely 😉

So Kent Business School is a fantastic, triple-crown accredited and world renowned department which focuses on giving its students all they need to find success in their future career paths. Rigorous teaching, generous support (both academically and personally), fantastic networking opportunities, all in a beautiful, cozy campus which contains all the equipment you'll need to succeed and learn effectively.
We see many of our alumni go on to gain high salaries, averaging <£30,000, with many also going onto work at prestigious companies and insitutions, such as Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank, PwC, Amazon, Disney, Fidelity, Ministry of Finance, etc. and that's really a testament to the availability of opportunities that the university tries to bring here for its students. It helps a lot that we're based just an hour from London, whilst being very close to Europe as well, as it's meant we've been able to host a whole variety of speakers from around the world to come here, whilst also being accessible for students to also go out and visit those places to show themselves off.
We also pride ourselves in being an incredibly supportive university, which may not matter much until you really need it! But when I say this, I mean it in the sense that major classes will have not just your lecture and seminar hours, but also drop-in classes, which are classes just for asking questions and reinforcing your understanding, every lecturer will have a consultation hour - an hour slot where they have to put down everything they're doing to again, answer any questions you have, you'll be given a personal academic advisor who again will be able to help you out with regards to either studies or personal worries, and then on top of that, we also have a plethora of student supprot departments, whether it be for academic support, mental health support, work opportunity support, stats-buddy support, etc. just to name a few! (Please excuse the long sentence, the main point that there's a lot of support!)

Anways, I could honestly write a whole load more on why I've personally loved studying here at Kent, but I'll close it there for the time being.
Don't hesistate to ask if you happen to have any questions. I'm always more than happy to respond! 😀

But yeah, really good list 👍️

Warm regards,

David 🙂

Hiya @Maizeak ,

Appreciate I'm coming to this thread very late so apologies for that!

Just wanted to say its great that you're thinking about Bath as a potential option for you going into business and management. According to the complete university guide yes Bath is a very highly ranking uni. However whist TGU is a good resource for some quick inspo it should not be your only source of truth! Its far more important that you look into the unis you're particularly interested in, compare their course content and see which one has modules which inspire you the most, go to their open days, check out the campus and the local area, see how 'at home' you feel there.

I did not do business and management here at Bath, I did psychology. However I absolutely loved being a student here. The uni is quite small and feels like a little village, the city of Bath is gorgeous and has tonnes to do (shopping, coffee houses, market, street food, green parks, axe throwing, escape room) and the placement scheme, particularly for BSc Business and BSc Management, is one of the best in the country. You're fully supported into and throughout your placements by a placements team, and the variety of businesses you could go to work for for a year is brilliant. Doing a placement is a lot of fun and a fab way to stand out in the grad job market so if this interests you then Bath would be a fabulous choice for this.

Wishing you the best of luck in your choices whichever direction you take!

Hi @Maizeak

This is an excellent list of unis!

Since your looking to study business, I thought I'd let you know about our university UCLan! UCLans business management and marketing courses were ranked 1st in the North West by The Times in 2023 for teaching quality.

I personally study business and management, so from my own experience here are some of my top points about UCLans business degree:

1) Placement Year - With such a competitive job market, having the opportunity to gain valuable work experience within the UK or abroad is an excellent chance to increase your employability. If you wish to do a placement year you have an abundance of assistance. The careers advisors are especially great in assisting you in creating the perfect CV and cover letter, alongside advice in finding placements.

2) Teaching quality - The tutors ensure everyone has a strong foundation before learning complex ideas. This ensure no one is left behind! I found this extremely useful as my degree is the first time I've ever studied business. There is also great communication links between yourself and staff, whether this is your tutor, course leader, personal tutor or more. Everyone is just a quick message away on teams.

3) Support for your goals - Based on your career goals, you can ensure you will be given the best support we can offer to push you in the right direction. Personally I needed assistance setting up my first business, for this I managed to receive financial help and an abundance of advise on how to handle finances, marketing and more.

If this interests you, I recommend checking out our business course pages.

I hope this helps, please feel free to ask me any questions,

What industry do you want to work in? Look at university located in the areas where the key players in the industry cluster, and you will automatically focus on the best universities for you. Top Business - very depends on the sector. I know people who rave on about Aston Business School, Bath Uni and Loughborough for Engineering Management, and Imperial College for technical marketing (Data Science and Econometrics applied to Marketing). What are you wanting to do for a career?

I went to London Business School and Oxford University, but would only recommend LBS if you were interested in Finance and Strategy.

You want to choose from the Triple Accredited Business Schools - https://poetsandquants.com/2024/01/25/the-triple-crown-business-schools-in-the-united-kingdom/

Choose the business school and course that gives you the best accreditation from a professional body, and the maximum exemption from their exams.

Look at Degree Apprenticeships at PWC, EY, Grant Thornton, British Airways, etc rather than ask whether a business school is good or not, as experience is increasingly more important due to there being an over-supply of business graduates from UK universities.

What sector are you aiming for?

What career path - Accountant, Actuary, Commercial Lawyer, CTA, CFA, Investment Banker, Real Estate Finance, etc?

What A-levels are you doing?

What are your predicted grades?

What grades did you achieve at GCSE?

How motivated are you for that career? Be able to explain why want to go to x, y, or z university. Look at their research too!
