Hi

Please try not to worry about this!

Lots of students experience this and as the term goes on develop friendships through societies and other clubs.

As more people start to arrive on campus it should start to become easier to make new connections!

I hope this helps,

Hey @Lily-May19,

I totally get where you are coming from - it can be tough to move away from home and make new friends when you first move into accommodation. I remember being in your shoes last year, I moved in a few days before everyone else, and it took me some time to get socially settled in.

Please try not to worry about this (I know it's easier said than done)! People might still be moving in and figuring things out.

Things usually start to get more lively and fun when the freshers week starts. I would highly recommend to get involved and attend the on-campus events and join a few clubs and societies. It's a great way to meet new people and make friends!

I hope this helps!

All the best,

Hi @Lily-May19 ,

Do you know when your other flat mates are going to be moving in? It will be a lot easier and a lot better when you have others in your flat so when they move in I think your experience will get better. If you know who your flatmates are going to be or you have a group chat with them at all you could ask them when they are going to be moving in so you are not too worried about this.

In terms of making friends, I would suggest having a look into societies and see if there are any that you like the sound of. Societies are great ways of making friends as you meet loads of new people and they will all be up for making friends as lots of people join societies with the intention of meeting new people.

Another way of making friends is on your course. If your course hasn't started yet, you will definitely meet people there so look forward to this! If not, see if you can meet any of your course mates on Facebook or other social media as there re often groups there where you can meet other people at your uni and on your course. If your course is putting on any welcome week events, I would recommend going to these as this is how you will meet people on your course and it makes it less daunting going to your first day of lectures when you already know some people!

As more people start to arrive at uni, you will naturally meet a lot more people and start to make friends. This will make it so much easier as there will be lots of people around to meet and mingle with! Once your course starts as well you will meet lots of people this way and it will keep you busy too.

I hope some of this helps,

Hi!
I wouldn't stress about this too much, many people will be moving in throughout the next couple of weeks. If there are any events going on at your university I would get involved with this.
Hope this helps! Faye 🙂

Hey there! 👋
My name is Siobhan and I'm a 3rd year at UCLAN.

Firstly, l'd like to say that you are definitely not alone in this and you should be proud of yourself for stepping forward and reaching out.

It's great that you re trying to go to the common room to meet new people, You mignt find that there may be more people there when events like Halloween parties or welcome parties are going on so I would keep an eye out for them!

You could also look at your university's sports clubs or societies and see if there's any that you might enjoy. They typically do social nights out so that could be a great way to make new friends! Info on this is normally on your uni's student union so I would have a browse there.

You could also look at social media and connect to people through there! You could find people in groups who are doing your course or who share your accommodation. It's also a great way to keep track of any events going on there.

Make the most out of freshers too if you can, a lot of people will be going there to make friends too so it's deffo worth a visit. What you're doing is great though by putting yourself out there!

Hope this has helped at all and please let me now if you have any more questions 🙂
