Mitosis in Biology gcse paper

Do I need to know the actual process of mitosis for my biology gcse because my teacher said we don't need to but we need to know like the gist of it so what exactly do i need to know im a bit confused? And is it the same for meiosis or do i actually have to know the process of meiosis step by step?

I did aqa. For that we needed to know the processes, like to be able to describe what is happening during the cell division. Look up the pages on it on Bitesize, those should give you all you need

For aqa, there are questions on mitosis, have a look at past papers to give you an idea of what points the mark scheme mentions - PMT have good detailed notes on what you need to know exactly.

This is what the specification says:
Students need to understand the three overall stages of the cell cycle but do not need to know the different phases of the mitosis stage.

The specification is really helpful to outline what you need to know and don't so I defo recommend having a look at that.

I did edexcel and there was no requirement to understand, name or describe the processes of cell division - ie prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase. I think it is possible to get a question where you order the phases 1,2,3,4 from a microscope photo but it's pretty obvious. For meiosis (do forgive me if I'm wrong cos I sat the GCSE a fair while ago), you do need to know that chromosomes make identical copies of themselves, and then divide to produce 4 daughter cells, but knowledge about how they pair up and sections of DNA swapping isn't needed.

Ohh ok, yeah I do Edexcel too, thank you so much!

I do edexcel. you do need to know the process for some questions because if you look at past papers some questions show images of the processes and they like ask you like what stage is this. I found mitosis hard to understand but it's really simple.

some questions: https://mmerevise.co.uk/app/uploads/2017/10/4.1.2.2-GCSE-Biology-AQA-OCR-EDEXCEL.-Mitosis-and-Cell-Cycle-Questions.pdf

just watch YouTube videos from like primrose kitten or cognito and purchase a revision guide from like cgp
